Nov 27, 2015 12:15 PM in response to idnemby idnem,Crap, it reverted to the most recent iTunes again. Russell, James, anyone, know how I can keep it at 12.3.0? I have "check for new software updates" unchecked.

Nov 27, 2015 11:20 PM in response to JWallace99by ejlif242,I am having a terrible time with iTunes lately too. I can't even add a track without iTunes hanging up and having to force quit. Hopefully they get this fixed soon doesn't seem like calling for help will do any good.

Nov 28, 2015 9:21 PM in response to JWallace99by mmax.acc,Guys, theres almost no point in replying here - please fill out this form *as many times as you can* http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Let apple know whats wrong and how upset you are that they release software that has not been properly tested. They need to test thoroughly internally, AND with real customers, using various OS versions. Yes I know that would take forever. We would rather wait! ONE reliable itunes update *per calendar year* would be optimal. Instead we get screwed every month with a terrible, inoperable, poorly designed update.
Anyone know how Windows is lately? I would happily switch over to Windows if someone told me it doesn't get screwed up by software updates every month.

Nov 30, 2015 10:47 AM in response to mmax.accby docbuff,I know this is the Mac page and I have Windows, but I am having the same horrible issues - ridiculously slow response times, adding CDs takes a long time (i.e., I have to walk away), making changes to files (e.g., editing song title) is the same, as is adding songs to playlists. I can't even get my new iPhone 6s to finish synching...However, my iPod Classic has no issues with synching. VERY strange....

Nov 30, 2015 11:42 AM in response to James A. Ganzby idnem,iTunes updated yet again to the unwanted latest version without my requesting it!!
I had unchecked "check for new software updates automatically" in preferences > advanced. I had also unchecked: "Always check for available downloads" in preferences > store.
Is there any thing more can I do to keep this version of iTunes off my computer?

Dec 1, 2015 3:08 AM in response to idnemby Matt W,Does Apple monitor these forums? Have they acknowledged there is a problem they are working on?
-
Dec 1, 2015 5:57 AM in response to Matt Wby JimmyCMPIT,99 times out of 100 you will not see Apple respond to any of this and only then it's never to acknowledge a bug or an issue, they may simply recommend a course of action they suggest or posted by another user, but I've never seen a "were aware of...", or "we are currently working on..."
btw this was un-related and not a solution I'm happy with having to resort to but Apple seemed to like it.

Dec 1, 2015 12:43 PM in response to Russell Maddenby Anthony MacCarthy,Hi again Russsell....
I have given up... I need to have my iTunes working again... my daughter needs an album for a video project she's working on and her phone is synced to my main machine.
When I type:
- Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
Do I type the Run part plus a single space and then the quotation marks... ? and is there another single space between sudo and rm and is there another single space between rm and -r ? Or should I type it all in as one bit ? or copy 'n' paste the type you supplied ?
Please advise as I typed this in with just the Sudo bit plus the extra blank spaces, I got the password prompt but nothing happened. I'm still paranoid I'm going to make things worse.
Please advise.
Regards,
Anthony

Dec 1, 2015 12:56 PM in response to Anthony MacCarthyby Russell Madden,Open Terminal; copy only the words inside the quotation marks; paste that into Terminal; hit enter; enter your password. (You won't see it as you type and the cursor won't move.) Hit enter. iTunes should be gone. Install iTunes 12.3.0.
So to repeat: do not type Run or anything else; just the words inside the quotation marks. Better, don't type the command; just copy/paste. Make it easier on yourself. (Though there is just one space between the parts you mentioned.)
Other people have used AppZapper or changed the Read and Write permissions in the Info window for iTunes and then deleted the app.
This is what I typed before:
This is from other people. Worked for me, anyway.
Download 12.3:
http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/download-review/1957301/apple-itunes-for-mac-1110
Then:
- Open the Terminal
- Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
- Re-install iTunes
Also, be aware that when it asks for your password, the password won't be visible as you type it. After you type password, hit enter and iTunes should be deleted.
After I reinstalled 12.3.0.44, things worked as before. Note: I had to restart my iMac before the version number in Finder matched the actual version number found by looking at "About iTunes" in the menu. Also, I then ran repair disk permissions via OnyX. It showed some problems w/ iTunes permissions, but those may or may not have been relevant to any of this problem.
Hope this helps.

Level 1 (120 points)
Mac OS XI just did a copy and past of the sudo string from the post and all worked perfectly. iTunes is now back!!!!
Still beachballing a lot... that could be to do with about a month or more worth of apps that need updating etc... will investigate more.
THANK YOU RUSSELL!!!
Best regards,
Anthony

If you have Genius enabled, that will chug away for awhile when you first open the new/old iTunes. (Check the upper right of the iTunes window.) Also, as you said, if you decide to update apps, that will take awhile to get through.
With luck, things should be more or less back to "normal" when any updating on iTunes's part is done.

Dec 1, 2015 1:20 PM in response to Russell Maddenby idnem,Hi Russel,
How do I get iTunes to stop updating to the latest version, once I follow your directions for downloading and replacing it with the earlier version?
I've followed those directions a few times, iTunes automatically updated each time, within a day or so, even though I had unchecked "check for new software updates automatically" in preferences > advanced. I had also unchecked: "Always check for available downloads" in preferences > store. Is there any thing more can I do to keep the latest unwanted version of iTunes off my computer?
Thanks for any help!

Dec 1, 2015 1:40 PM in response to idnemby Russell Madden,I had to go to System Preferences, then to App Store and unselect "Download newly available updates in the background." I left checked the "Automatically check for updates" preference. That plus the changes you did in iTunes worked for me to keep iTunes from auto updating.
