Generally you should be able to use a newer power adapter on the older MacBook since the magsafe
design is backward compatible; however there is a small part that can allow the opposite to work if one
happened to have it, the physical adapter allows the older magnetic power plug to fit a later MacBook.
The product you need should have similar specification as the one listed here, an official part:

This one has the L shape and is compatible with the MacBook and also MacBook/Pro:

This site has several magsafe power adapters and information on each kind they stock; some are in-
bulk and may not include a long AC cord (just the toggle 'duckhead' AC part on the adapter) while other
show the units are retail (not bulk) and those usually include the long extension power cord that can be
used in place of the duck-head part. This is the power-in side of the Magsafe, not the power-out.

Avoid the smaller output adapters because they were intended for MacBook AIR model, though you could
get a larger output than the original your MacBook shipped with and that would be OK, it will correctly
supply only the power the computer needs. (These all automatically conform to local power in-put voltage.)
