If it worked properly in a new account, but not in your regular user account, this suggests it is the iCal plist.

Try removing the plist and launching iCal, use the technique I posted above.

Using the command key for resizing/re-positioning windows does work for me in El Capitan.

To remove the iCal plist, in a Finder window, hold down the "Option" key, click on the "Go" Menu Bar and select "Library". User Library is hidden by default, so using the "Option" key exposes the "Library" (This is the User Library not the System Library)

Now navigate to "Preferences" then to com.apple.iCal.plist and move it to the desktop.

The full path should look like this but with your user name…

/Users/greg/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist

Now launch iCal, make your window changes using the command key, then quit.

Relaunch iCal and it should stick.

As long as iCal launches ok, you can then "Trash" the iCal.plist on the Desktop, this was just a safety procedure. Apps automatically create new plists.

If for some reason this doesn't work, there is a clunkier way, but I have not had any issues with the above method. Let me know.

This method does work for me for any window in El Capitan and AFAIK this is how you set default window behavior in EC.

    Good Afternoon ipragman,

    If I understand your issue, when you launch the Calendar app on your Mac since updating to El Capitan, the window size is too small.  Here's how to resize the default window size:

    1. With the Calendar application open, point to the bottom right corner of the window.  When you see the double-headed arrow, drag the corner to resize the window to the size you want.
    2. Quit the Calendar application.  
    3. Relaunch the Calendar application and the window will open to the new default size.

    This process is the same for most windows in OS X El Capitan.

    I have tried doing that and many other things. It switched to half height on both my macbook pro & iMac (both retina)

    I'm having the same issue and I also tried the steps listed above without resolving the problem.  Retina MBP.

    Hi ipragman,

    One thing you can try is to test this in a New User account.  That way, we can determine if this is a systemwide issue, or if it is just occurring in your User Account.  Here's how:

    I just created a test account, logged in, opened Calendar - quit calendar - opened it - resized it - quit calendar - reopened it - my settings were saved each time.  I logged out, logged back in to my primary account, opened Calendar, resized it, quit Calendar, reopened Calendar - it opened half height.

     

    In summary, it's worked as expected with my test account, opening half height and won't save settings with my real account.

    Hold down the "command" key prior to resizing. Quit and reopen. It should retain the new size as default.

    You can reset the default for other things this way as well like screen position.

    Works for "Finder" windows too

    I just tried what you suggested, that did not work either.  FYI - I'm a programmer type, so I'm following the instructions carefully and correctly.

    Nothing suggested has worked for me either - including the COMMAND Key approach.

    Just out of curiosity, when you installed El Capitan, did you do a clean install or did you use Migration Assistant?

    I try to always do clean installs between major OS changes as MA can cause minor issues. Sticky plists being one of them.

    Interesting - that worked, but when I turned on View / Show Calendar List and got out - it came back half height.  For testing I did View / Hide Calendar List and I can resize normally - but if my Calendars are displayed on the left - I get the half height behavior.

     

    Would either of you mind verifying that?  I'm wondering if that's the source of the issue - when I removed iCal.plist the default was not to display the calendar list.

    No my window size does not change no matter what view I use or whether I am in Day/Week/Month/Year.

    Rock solid at about 80% of total monitor size which is how I set it up.

    Opening, quitting iCal, restarting computer does not change the window size/position.

    I cannot reproduce the problem you are having.

    Might try deleting plist again, set up iCal how you want using "cmmd" key then quitting. This can also include "List" view. Key is not to do anything other than setting up window. These first actions create the data in the plist.

    You can even see the data created by selecting the plist and scrolling down the info pane.

     

    Curiosity again, did you use MA to install EC?
