Q: Photos Calendar Problems

I have a Mac with recently downloaded OS X 10.11.1 (el Capitan) running Photos version: 1.2 (340.4.0).  I am trying to create a calendar, unsuccessfully.  (This the first time for me trying to create a calendar in iPhotos, or Photos.)  In Photos, I click on " + " in the toolbar, then "Create Calendar".  A screen then comes up, showing a date scroll, with a "Continue" button.  Pressing the button takes me to a new screen, blank, with the dreaded rotating circle in the toolbar.  I have waited for 30 minutes with the only action being the rotating circle in the tool bar.  I have cancelled and retried several times, with the same results.

What is going on?  Does Apple not want my print business?  I thought these systems were supposed to be user friendly??

Repair the library according to these instructions from this Apple document: Repair Your Library.

Note: If you use iCloud Photo Library with Photos, this action will cause Photos to re-upload all your pictures. (from Fix missing or incorrect thumbnails in Photos - Apple Support)

Thanks OT for the prompt response.  Apparently I do not need to reload the library.  I have 30,000+ photos in Photos on my Mac, and do not use iCloud.

Through trial and error, I found out that one must select the photos before creating the calendar.  I don't recall this being a requirement, when searching "Help".  It would be helpful, if this was stated explicitly somewhere.  Relying on intuition to learn Apple Apps, doesn't work for me.

I want to use photos from different albums, moments, events, activities, projects etc. (have I covered all of the Photos classifications?  Very confusing.)  Selecting the photos in advance prior to creating the calendar is difficult, especially if they must be done from 30,000+ photos.  It makes more sense to create a calendar, then copy and paste the subject photos from different Photo sources. Is there anyway to drag photos into a draft Calendar, or do I have to select all the photos prior to creating the Calendar?

At the bottom of the Calendar page is a button stating "Clear Placed Photos".  Does this clear only the photos from the subject calendar itself, or does it erase  the photos from Photos permanently?

Meanwhile, I'll stumble and bumble about in Calendar, and hope I can get a simple calendar completed before Christmas for a gift, without permanently deleting any of my photos.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

That's always been a requirement to creating any project.  At least one photos must be selected.

To add photos from different albums just drag them onto the Calendar project title in the sidebar.

Clear Placed photos will only clear the photos from the calendar, put them in the Unused Photos tray but will keep them  in the library.

Yes, you can start a calendar with just a few photos. Reveal the sidebar in the browser by pressing the key combination ⌥⌘S  (option-command-S)

Then you can drag and add any photo from the browser directly onto your Calendar project in the sidebar.

    For example:
