Q: Kernal_task is making my mac slow

I don't know what to do to turn off the kernal_task in task manager.  Help. I ran these trying to solve the problem from a different post but then I got lost as to what to do with them.

    This could be caused by a system modifier, generally a program that has been installed either with or without your permission.

    I see you have Growl on your computer. This program is notorious for finding it's way onto Macs. While it is a legitimate program, it has scared Apple users for quite some time now. People just assume it is a virus. Even though it was probably installed without your knowledge, it is not a  The website below has a link to the Growl uninstaller. Try that first and see if it helps at all.

    http://growl.info/thirdpartyinstallations

    Also, You have A LOT of Launch Agents. These are things that start up when you turn your computer on. These are usually installed automatically when an application is installed. They can be found in your user Library in the Launch Agents folder. By default, that folder is empty. So anything in there was installed by a third party.

    Post the output from EtreCheck, and someone will analyze its output for you.

    <https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174>

    But let your Mac run for awhile with all its problems so that when EtreCheck is run, there will be lots of statistics for it to collect.  Running EtreCheck just after booting or while life is good and wonderful will deny EtreCheck to ability to do the best job it can for you.

    kernel_task "IS" the Heart and Soul of OS X.  It is the lowest level of the operating system called the 'kernel' and you cannot make it go away, as without it you are not running any operating system.

    There is a good chance one of the 3rd party kernel extensions is responsible, as they load into kernel address space and run as part of the kernel.  It is also possible you have some other software that is making heavy demands on the kernel for services which is driving the kernel crazy with work to do.

    Please post the EtreCheck output as a starting point for analyzing your situation.

    Generally speaking it a very bad idea to run Terminal commands with superuser privileges (meaning, by providing an Admin user password) without knowing exactly what they are going to do. That is the reason for the cautions in the numbered list the accompanied that action. You need to be more circumspect when using your Mac, so as to avoid installing malicious modifications to it.

    However, in your case what you entered was harmless and is merely reporting information about your Mac's operating system including certain modifications to it. It did not cause any such modifications to occur, but using Terminal in the manner you did is certainly capable of doing so. It can lead to information theft, data loss, or other miseries.

    In any event its output indicates that certain adware has been installed and is affecting your Mac. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. To address that problem please read the following:

    Navigate to the following folder, and post its contents by taking a screenshot (or multiple screenshots, if necessary) to capture all its contents:

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents

    To open that folder, copy the entire line above and paste it in the Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder... field. It should look like this:

    gt.png

    Click the Go button. Take a screenshot showing all that folder's contents, and post it in a reply. Make sure all file names are readable by choosing View > as List and expanding the Name column so that it is sufficiently wide. To learn how to take a screenshot read the instructions in the Appendix of the following User Tip: Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question. There will be additional instructions to follow.
