From your question, it sounds like you are attempting to restore your iPhone using recovery mode, but the iPhone becomes disconnected from iTunes during the process. If this is correct, I would suggest reading over and working through the suggested steps in the following article.

I think my Internet connection was just too slow at the time. I ended up just going to the Apple store. Thanks though
