Q: App store blocked by our IT Dept.
I work for a large medical laboratory with a couple thousand employees all running Windows machines. I'm the graphic designer for the Marketing Department and am running one of three Macs that our creative team uses. Currently, when we try to access the app store for updates, I'm blocked by our firewall. We have a pretty restrictive firewall in place since certain departments deal with patient records and we have to maintain HIPPA compliance. When I asked our IT department if they could unblock the access to the Mac App store, the question they give me is, what is the URL? I explain to them that the app store is an application and it doesn't display the URL to me when I launch it, so I have no idea what it is. So my question is, in order to be able to access the app store and receive all of my updates, what URL does our IT department need to unblock from the firewall so I can make this happen? Currently, I have to unmount my network drives, unplug my ethernet cable, sign on to guest wifi, reboot my machine, and log in for updates over the wifi. It's a huge pain. Can anyone help me make our Windows boys and girls in IT understand what they need to do to make their firewall Mac friendly?
