Q: bootcamp partition not showing up in El Capitan

I just upgraded to OS X El Capitan, however, my windows partition is not showing up either in disk utility or start up menu. I see that my mac partition is still the same size as i left it (500 GB) while its missing the windows partition (250 GB). I followed this

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

p

setpid 4

07

flag 4

p

write

y

but i get an error when i use the command "write" it says "operation not permitted"

I have a macbook pro mid 2012 with 750 GB HDD

Please help!!!

Please back up OSX and Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.

    Hi Loner T

I tried what you suggested, but was met with an error

In step 12 of the first section "Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets", I received the following error message:

"Unable to open device '/dev/rdisk0' for writing! Errno is 1! Aborting write!"...

    Please help!

    Thanks so much in advance

Can you post a new discussion and include the output of the following OS X Terminal commands to avoid confusion with OP?

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

I got an used Macbook Pro 15", late 2011. It has the disc drive replaced with an additional hard disk.

I decided to install Windows 7 on the additional disk, which has two partitions: one for mac and the other for windows.

I used the virtual box method to install windows on the macbook, the installation went fine, until the reboot to the real hardware. The windows partition shows up in the mac os settings where I can choose it to boot from it, but when I reboot I end up with a black screen with a cursor...

    the method I used:

    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/179486/boot-camp-install-of-windows-7-i ssue-no-bootable-devices?rq=1

If I boot the mac holding the alt key it only shows the OS X drive... But I can see the windows partition on the desktop and browse the windows files...

The original drive (disk0) has one partition and contains OS X, disk1 is the additional drive with two partitions: one for mac files and one for windows.

Please start a new discussion in Boot Camp . Typically, Windows is installed on the Main drive bay disk. What is the year/model of your Mac?
