From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click: Remove All Website Data
Then quit and relaunch safari to test.
If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions and third party plug-ins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Uninstall one extension at a time then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow Plug-ins.. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Dec 5, 2015 2:15 PM in response to jschubel1971by jschubel1971,Carolyn, thank you for your quick response. Initially, this seems to have fixed the problem once I deselected allow plug-ins. However, when I went to the internet plug-in folder in library, there was nothing in it? Hopefully safari will continue to work properly. Thanks again.

One is root: /Library/Internet Plug-ins
and your home folder ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
*** The Tilde ~ character represents your Home folder
