Q: Mavericks back to Snow Leopard experiences

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (4GB RAM, 2.26 GHz, 160 HD) that is currently running Mavericks (10.9.5). I’m having some issues with iTunes (12.3.1) finding my library since I copied library files from my Time Capsule to an Ext. HD. I’ve researched and followed directions, but iTunes doesn’t want to find the library, even when I tell it to go back to looking for it on the Time Capsule

It’s been suggested that I revert back to Snow Leopard and run an earlier version of iTunes. The Apple Tech I spoke with on the phone says this is not recommended and may cause larger problems. Many people here and elsewhere explain how to revert to Snow Leopard so obviously it’s possible.

If you’ve switched from Mavericks back to Snow Leopard with a similar aged Mac what has been your experience? I’m thinking the techs at Apple might be on a short leash as far as what they can advice and that Apple doesn’t want people going backwards with software - even if it’s possible. Still, I’d like to hear the experience of others.

Actually that's among the reasons i keep Snow Leopard on my mid-2009 MBP5,5. If you have a Time Machine(or other kind of a) backup ready, there will be no problem in downgrading the OS. You can achieve a clean installation of Snow Leopard via the installation DVD that came along your Mac and automatically or manually (i recommend manually) put back your files. Nevertheless , i think you should give a chance on migrating your iTunes library ,since it seems that is your basic problem, following the procedure below:

Try to uninstall the version of iTunes that is installed in current version of Mac OS X and install the 11.4 version (the latest available iTunes on Mac OS X 10.6.8). You can download this version from this link Apple - Support - Downloads . Next you could follow these instruction on how to migrate your library

How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support . I'm not sure if this will work since i've tried it twice only on Snow Leopard. Keep us informed about how it went.

How are you telling it to go back and look for the library on the Time Capsule?  Many people do not understand how iTunes works and what a library really is and do it the wrong way (with preferences).

Holding down the option key when I open iTunes.

I've decided to just upgrade my internal drive from 160 GB to 1 TB and keep everything on the new drive which (for me) is the easiest solution.
