Q: My iMac isn't working after I reinstalled OS X.

I've been on the phone with apple support all day and I'm having trouble figuring out what's wrong with I'm hard drive. The problem was that it would turn on and get on the loading screen with the apple icon, get to about 50% then freeze. It would stay like that for hours and I would hold down the power button to turn it off and back on, but I'm afraid that made it worse.

My iMac is a mid 2011 model.

During the first call I went on to find OS X Utilities holding down the "option" key and I did verify and repair Macintosh HD. It was all green. Then I was told to reinstall OS X and I did. We scheduled a check-up like call for 2 hours later to make sure everything went smoothly. It reinstalled, it restarted then it got to 50% again and stopped.

The second call I told him what happened and I was told to turn of the mac, unplug it, and hold the power button for 10 seconds and so I did that. Then turned it back on using Command - Option - P - R. It did bare any results. Next we turned it on with Shift to get into safety mode but that didn't work, and it was decided that we try to reinstall OS X again. He then rescheduled another checkup for 2 hours later. It installed, restarted, and now its at a screen With the big OS X icon on a and it says "installing on Macintosh HD." with 23 minutes remaining but it has said "23 minutes remaining" for quite a while.

What do I do?
