Dec 6, 2015 2:27 AM in response to Tucks236by titus alone,Try clicking on Go in your Finder menu and open Utilities. Click on Disk Utilitiy, and your connected HDs should show up with you internal drive at the top and the attached one underneath (click on the lower one if there are two showing). It may be dimmed if it is not showing up on your desktop, but you can click on it and then click on First Aid in the menu at the top and Disk Utility will check for errors and repair them. Your external HD should then show up on your desktop.Good luck!

Dec 6, 2015 2:53 AM in response to Tucks236by lllaass,Yu say it Dish Utility says "unformatted". To be used the disk has to be formatted in a format that the mac recognizes.
The disk has to be formatted. It could be that the disk failed.
Try formatting the disk in Mas format.
It is normal for an external USB-connected drive to show SMART not supported

Dec 6, 2015 3:02 AM in response to Tucks236by lllaass,The disk is essentially erased now.
Try a disk recovery app:
you can download a demo of Data Rescue 4, and the demo will give you an idea of what it can recover. If it looks promising, you then can buy the software.

For a PC to recognize it it has to be formatted. A Mac in Disk Utility will report a format the Mac can't use.
