Q: iMessage Stopped Working After Repair (Logic Board)
Hello all,
I just picked up my MacBook Pro from repairs. It needed a new logic board. I turn it on and now iMessage doesn't sync with my iPhone. It also says every contact "is not registered with iMessage". I cannot message anyone from it nor do I receive any messages.
I have tried a ton of troubleshooting threads. Turning iMessage on and off for all devices, check the hosts file, making sure there is a build and serial number, restarting the computer, etc... I checked Date and Region, as I bought this computer from the US but I've tried both United States and United Kingdom in the region and no luck.
I'm running out of options here. Anyone have any advice?
I'd rather not go back to the Apple Store if I can help it. Here in London they are absolutely mad with people and its impossible to get anything looked at.

Hi,
I concur with Linc in that the only option now is to contact Apple Support and ask them to sort out the Apple ID.
Due to the fact each device logging in to iMessages with the Apple ID does so with a Unique login (based around the Serial Number) it can look like a Hardware or Software issue as it only affects that one device.
However we know from the OS X 10.8.2 update that first used the Serial number in Messages Version 7.0.1 that the issue can arise.
Posts here confirm a range of related issues where the Mac does not login to iMessages properly.
Symptoms include the Contacts turning red and saying the are "Not Registered with iMessages" or the sent iMessages immediately being marked "Not Delivered".
It also seems to occur for some at the El Capitan update.
Originally some posts around the version 7.0.1 lack of Serial Number seemed to suggest the Level 2 people at Apple Support could see the iMessages server and the issue related to the Mac's Login and would reset it. (it only works if your get the Serial Number fixed).
We suggested that calling them be tried in the later issues and for some it seemed the same thing was done.
More recently it seems that the Level 2's are more reluctant and want to double check you have jumped through all the hoops including a Reinstall (which we don't think is needed). They also tend to involve the Engineers and get you to collect data for them.
There is obviously a trigger that is designed to be a security feature that is being triggered.
Based on the Number of posts here the numbers involved are actually small (possibly a few thousands with variations of the issue in Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan).
Eventually it seems you get told the ID will be reset but that it takes 24 hours.
Nothing done in Messages with the iMessages account seems to reset it.
Unlike AIM there is no site to go to to confirm you are in fact you to reset things yourself when your account is suspended.
I can only suggest being polite and insisting that the Apple ID in relation to the iMessages server is reset so that the Mac can reuse the ID.
It can be frustrating as it should not be this difficult.
I hope it goes well for you.
