Q: Do I have the right firmware?

I have the Macbook Pro 13 inch, late 2011. I'm on El Capitan.

I have had some bizarre things happen. They usually turn out to be a thing of my own making. But today my Macbook pro, 13” late 2011 shut off twice, and once I had to wait before turning it on.

I read an article about updating the EFI and SMC firmware: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201518

I have MBP81.0047.B2a, which seems to be the one for three other models (for early 2011)

According to the chart, mine should end in A2B. Before I go messing with this, am I interpreting it correctly? Would the midyear change be significant enough?

Read this whole article.https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201518 If you try a firmware update make sure you follow all the instructions for doing so. This problem may not have anything to do with firmware. Have you tried a pram reset-Command/Option/P/R keys and power button for three chimes at startup? Or a SMC reset. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

That article has a typo. If you look carefully, the link for the 'B2A' and 'A2B' firmware update are the same.

Bottom line: Your MacBook Pro has the latest firmware.
