ASAP? Is this a real emergency?

Could you or anybody else have put something in the drive such as one of those mini DVDs?

There is not much you can do about mechanical errors with optical drives other than replace the drive or use a substitute such as an external drive.  7 years is quite a run for an optical drive, particularly one in a notebook.  The optical drives in my desktop usually last about 4 years and I do not really use them much.

Try opening Terminal ( it's in your Utilities folder) and type drutil eject, then hit return. That should cause your optical drive to cycle and may free up the mechanical jam.

Well I Tried it and it was of no use. I think that before when i used to insert a cd after going halfway it just goes in automatically and it doesn't happen right now

Sounds like the drive is dead. You can replace it or get an inexpensive external drive.
