Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

Same problem. I saw https://support.apple.com/en-us/https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6671 & believe this will be fixed but returned my iPad Pro anyway. I wanted to try using the device for real work, so don't have time for doubts about reliability like this.

Posting here in case anyone from Apple is keeping score.

iPad Pro 128 GB WiFi space gray

I had the issue several times initially and only a hard reset would start the iPad; a minor inconvenience really. Let's not get carried away. In the meantime I did a "Backup to Computer" and a recharge on my 2012 27" iMac via USB starting at 37% battery charge level. It did not cause any trouble and when I ejected it it was alive and well. At that point "Hey Siri" was not enabled.

A few days later I enabled "Hey Siri" and charged it using the charger of one of my older iPads (I have not yet used the charger that came with the iPad Pro) starting at the 57% battery level. The moment I unplugged it the iPad was alive and well at 100% charge.

While it is certainly unfortunate that the iPad Pro has these issues the upcoming software upgrade to iOS 9.2 should resolve it. This minor issue, while unfortunate,  would not deter me from buying the iPad Pro.

Exact same story.  Bought an iPad Pro last night (128GB/Cell).  It worked fine right out of the box.  I plugged it in to charge and went to bed.  This morning it would not wake up.  Had to do a hard start.

Same problem.  I was glad to find this thread.   I was a bit shaken when I woke up yesterday with my sermon on my iPad and it was dead!  Hard reset worked, but for the first time in years I actually printed a back up (I've been using an iPad Air without issue for years).  Makes me wonder about the dependability of this new Pro. Same issue today . . .

I have two Ipad Pro 128 gig -- one with cellular, one with wi-fi only. Both had to do the reset thing after recharging over night. Thanks to this thread -- i did the 1) turn on siri and 2) Hey Siri trick -- both ipads have been working fine -- they have been working with this temporary fix for the past two and one-half weeks. As indicated in previous articles, the 9.2 iOS should fix the problem. Hope this helps. Rudy.

Since Hey Siri works for so many people but not me, I was wondering if anyone whose problem has been solved by turning on Hey Siri also uses the Apple Pencil to draw/paint on the iPad Pro? I'm just curious what the difference is between those iPads and mine.

I Know the discussion is about the iPad pro but I have an iPad mini with the same problem. It started  number of weeks ago. The hey Siri fix did not work for me as did none of the other suggested temporary repairs. I have appreciated all of the suggestions though. I have gone to my local Genius Bar and had a chat session with Apple care.. Neither person had even heard of the problem. I am tired of hard resets and hope the problem will be fixed.

Same problem.  Apple online chat asked me to perform the same routine, restart iPad as new.  They said this is the first time he's heard of this problem. Didn't fix the problem.

I have the same problem. I installed the iOS 9.2 beta and this solved the problem. But I find it unbelievable  how long it takes that Apple provides a official remedy. Why is there no update only for the iPad Pro users who are waiting for weeks ... I loved my Apple products by now but my love disappears!

FYI: I bought my iPad Pro in Japan and it has the same problem.  I suppose the next IOS will fix it, but I'm not pleased with the wait.  I don't qualify to download the beta SW.

same problem here!  so frustrating!  a hard reset required after charging overnight.  I am not a developer and cannot fix this with beta 9.2 like many who replied did.  APPLE!!!!!  FIX IT PLEASE!!!!

This is clearly a widespread problem, because I have been through two devices now and still have the problem. Apple support initially told me that I had a hardware problem, so I returned it and got a new one. Same thing -- shuts down while charging. What is particularly frustrating is that nobody appears to have any solution. I have tried wiping it clean and setting up as new. That worked for a few days. But whatever piece of bad code is causing this is still out there and eventually manifests itself. I am about ready to give up and ask for my money back.

$1,200 is too much to pay for a device that doesn't work reliably.

Has Apple responded or even acknowledged this thread!?  It isn't the end of the world but it is shaking my trust in a long line of products that I have found to exceed expectations in the past.  Wondering if they are now too big to care about quality?
