Q: Sort from newest to oldest

How can I reverse the default sorting order?

I want to see the latest pictures on top and not at the bottom.

Smiles across the wires,

The sort by date, ascending or descending, only works in albums and smart albums.  In the Photos and All Photos windows the sort order is predetermined and can't be changed by the user.

This is indeed a very old problem and it strikes to me as odd that a complete menu item is present in Photo's (View>Sort) which is not user configurable.

My biggest problem is not the sorting in Photos app itself, but the subsequent order of the photo's on my AppleTV. It always starts with the oldest picture first. With the old AppleTV (version 3) however I had a work around. If I displayed the oldest photo full screen and then with the back arrow key on the remote I got the newest photo. If I then went one level up I was in the overview of the newest photos and could navigate without problems.

This week I got my new AppleTV (version 4) and the above mentioned work around does NOT work any more. Bummer...

It is virtually impossible to manually navigate my almost 28000 photos on screen to arrive at the newest photo. I

Does anyone know how to convince the Apple developers to make one very small change in a default ordering, which makes all customers happy? I can not imagine that there is a single customer who wants to start looking at his/her pictures from the oldest ones in their library first.

    Regards,

    Gerard

Send your feature request to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html.

You are correct - but since you werer aware that your post was not helpful why did you open up a thread that is over a year old with a useless post that by your own admission is not helpful?

Rather limited understanding of the concept of helpful. My reply stated the factual position, and so saved you the time of endlessly searching for a solution that doesn't exist. That, some people might find helpful. Then I appended a link to the Feedback mechanism so that you could make a feature request. That too could be helpful. Given that the answer you hoped for was simply not available, what help did you expect?

The sort option "keep sorted by oldest first" is grayed out, and I was just wondering if there was a way around that.

You cannot sort the predefined "All Photos" album or the moments.

But any album you create yourself.

Instead of offering sort options for the predefined albums Apple provided multiple library items that are sorted differently.

    • "All Photos" will show you the photos sorted by the date of import, ascending, so the most recent imports will always be found at the bottom of the album.
    • "Moments", "Collections", "Years" will be sorted by the  capture date, ascending.
    • Your own albums and smart albums have several sort options.

I created my own "MyAllPhotos" album, that is all showing all photos I have not hidden:
