Q: yosemite airplay video and audio stutter

After upgrading to the official Yosemite /not the beta version/ on my iMac 2013 and MBP the airplay streaming of video and audio through any of my two Apple TVs results in intermittent audio and video stuttering which can drive one crazy. Sound and picture are choppy no matter from which computer or to which apple tv streaming is implemented. Any advice how to fix this issue - airplay has become practically unusable to me and family....

I didn't use to AirPlay to my Apple TV from my laptop (MacBook Air) much before, but I've started to more frequently. Got tired of the stuttering and found this thread. I didn't want to disable bluetooth, so I kept trying to figure out a way to make it work.

My scenario is streaming from iTunes only. I'm not doing AirPlay of my whole monitor or of all sounds. I noticed that the stuttering would happen while using other apps, but if I stayed on iTunes, it wouldn't happen. So my solution has been to use the MiniPlayer with the "Keep miniplayer on top of all windows" option selected in the Advanced preferences. It's kind of annoying since I don't actually like the miniplayer, but it has worked at preventing the stuttering so far. Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who might stumble on this thread and is in the same scenario that I am.

I'm curious if this is fixed in El Capitan. I plan on upgrading this week, so I'll report back if it fixes things. Or maybe someone on this thread who has already upgraded can comment on that.

Streaming over wi-fi to a brand new AppleTV (4th Gen)/HD projector from a MacBook Air (mid 2013, El Capitan), I encountered the same stuttering issues outlined by others on this thread. The suggested turning off of Spotlight and Bluetooth on the MBA failed to correct the problem. The only consistently reproducible solution was to switch from Mirroring the MBA to the projector to using the ATV/projector as a separate display (System Preferences > Display). This stops all stuttering in both audio and video, but is a horrible work-around when you need to deliver slideshows. I need to see my laptop to know what's being projected on the screen behind me (turning my back to the audience to watch the big screen is unacceptable). Apple needs to address this issue, which obviously has been around for as long as AirPlay has, over multiple generations of Apple TVs and operating systems. Come on!

I'm getting stuttering on latest OS X and tvOS whenever I activate Spotlight (cmd+space). Very strange.

I get the same stuttering if using mirroring of  desktop onto airplay modern tv.

However films, videos or tv programs stored in iTunes, and played from iTunes runs smoothly, no problem.!!!

It appears to be that El Capitain is doing something special with iTunes and not provided the same  interface route for non-itune software. Not good!
