Q: Apple Mail "search" is dysfunctional....how do I add the right search buttons?

Upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1 and found the Apple Mail program (in the 'classic' mode) no longer allows me to search my emails by "from" and "to".  Instead, the 'search' returns hundreds of emails I don't want.   Plus, the scrolling of the inbox is horrible as it bounces all over the place.  Is there any way to revert back to an earlier version of Apple Mail (without all the unnecessary bells & whistles)??   Thank you!

There is no way to revert to an earlier version of Mail without reverting to a previous OS.

Try Mail/Preferences and uncheck the classic mode. Quit Mail and reopen. Select the classic mode again to see if there is an improvement.

If that doesn't work, boot into the Safe Mode and test. If it works there, some 3rd party software may be causing the problem.

Unfortunately, when I did as you suggest and left the 'classic' mode, all messages in my inbox displayed the "To" (which is me!) rather than the "From".  However, I was able to fix another problem and switched back to 'classic'.  Search in Mail doesn't yet provide a drop down menu that allows me to select only the "From" or "to"......instead, all messages come up no matter where the name appears in an email.  This is the major annoyance with Apple Mail.
