Q: Is iCloud compatible with Outlook 2016?

I've installed Windows 10 and Office 2016. I also installed iCloud and every time I try to access it and synch with my Outlook 2016, a window pops up and says top Repair iCloud installation, then Restart. I've done this twice but still no go.

Is Outlook 2016 too new??? Or is it Windows 10???

It only proves again and again, how inexperienced those poor "consultants" or "advisors" are.... They are reading a solution off a manual, for heaven's sakes... What an absolute waste of time. What impression does this make of Allmigty Apple or Microsoft! Good Lord, we live in a world of soooo much mediocrity...

I have since rung Apple again, since the previous response was anything but helpful, I seemed to spend most of my time explaining what their own program should do.

So second time around, got through to someone who correctly identified the need to escalate the issue to a senior adviser, who then told him that it would only work with Office for Mac. So the guy comes back to me and I direct him to Apple's iCloud for Windows webpage, which clearly states that it is compatible with Outlook 2016 running on windows (you would have thought that the name "iCloud for Windows" was enough of a clue but I guess not). Anyway to his credit he tried to get hold of another senior adviser because he got quite angry he'd been made to look like a moron and the second one was quite helpful. She ran through a few simple steps over the phone (i'd already tried them but gave her the benefit of the doubt), and when we couldn't get anywhere, I emailed her the error message I keep receiving and she has forwarded the whole thing on to the software engineers themselves because I am the first person to have reported this issue (not sure I believe that bit).

Apparently I can expect to get a response before the end of play tomorrow, I'll post back here with more info when I have it.

To clarify, I have Windows 7 Pro x64 running Outlook 2016 as part of Office 365, and I'm using iCloud for Windows 5.1 (The version that supposedly supports Outlook 2016). I can install everything fine, but when I tick the box to sync with Outlook and click apply, I get this error message:

    Capture.PNG

If you are having the same problem, keep checking here and I'll post with whatever information I receive.

    Regards,

    James

    Hi James,

I've been away from this discussion for a few days, so I'm not sure what you've tried.  I had a similar issue one time.  In my case, I had to go into my Outlook settings and delete all iCloud related accounts.  I had a .me account set up and the iCloud account that is set up automatically.  After I deleted both, I rebooted, reinstalled iCloud and it worked.  I've also seen other discussions on here where folks had to delete all Apple related software - iTunes, Apple Software Update, everything.  They then reinstalled iCloud and it worked.

I hope you find an answer, soon.  I know it gets frustrating.

I have literally tried everything, uninstalled all Apple and Office software, and then reinstalled only for the problem to still exist.

I've tried removing iCloud for windows, then removing my entire outlook profile and then reinstalling office (essentially starting again as far as outlook is concerned), then reinstalling iCloud for windows and the problem still exists.

Thanks for the help, but I have a nagging feeling that it's just not compatible with office 365, but some people have got lucky? Because I don't know what more I can do?

And since Marco has the same setup and problem, it would appear to be a fundamental issue rather than something unique on my end.

Have followed this thread for sometime now.  Think the office 365 is the key issue regardless of win 7 or 10.

Appreciate all your efforts to get to the bottom of this supposedly new fix that still isnt.

Hi guys, I had this problem as well. I was able to resolve it by reverting back to office 2013.  ICloud did come out with an update today that says it is compatible with office 2016. I am not going to try it until I have heard several people have it installed and contacts are syncing with Icloud so that my data on phone goes back to my computer properly.

Now for those that have a tech tell you that you cant go back, tell him or her they are full of it. You are paying good money for an office subscription and they were not informing people that 2016 is not compatible with Apple. They will provide you with a link to re install 2016, but you may have to insist on it.  With that said I had a real problem getting back to 2013. It took a window rep 3 nights at 2 hours per to uninstall 2016, Icloud, and finally get a reinstall of 2013. I even had to restore my windows 10 back to out of the box, and I had to reload all my programs. It was not fun.

Well I'll post back here as soon as I hear anything

This has gone on for what seems like forever, it doesn't seem like too hard a task does it...

My PC run Windows 10 and Office 365. Outlook 2016 doesn't work with iCloud 5.1.

So, I returned to Office 2013 with iCloud 5.1.

    I am waiting for iCloud 5.2 ???

I'm seeing a running theme here...

It doesn't seem to be compatible with Office 365...

    What a shocking oversight...

I have an Office 365 subscription and I got it working.  When I first encountered the problem with Office 2016 I downgraded to 2013.  Yesterday, I was able to successfully upgrade to Office 2016  with ICloud 5.1 (the steps I took are on page 27).  I am also on Windows 10.

How did you downgrade to 2013?

And in what order did you carry this out?

Did you downgrade office, then upgrade icloud, then upgrade office again?

I also have Office 2016 from Office 365 and it is running fine:

    • On 2 Windows 10 computers since iCloud 5.1
    • On one Windows 7 computer (32 bit) even before iCloud 5.1

I don't know why the results are discordant for different people.

For Windows 7 I'd consider the possibility of 32 bit versus 64 bit as being important.

For Windows 10 I don't know.  For what it's worth, my version is the Business (as opposed to Home) version, but I have no idea whether that is important.

This must be very frustrating.  It was bad enough before iCloud 5.1, but being left behind while others got a fix must feel lonely.  But think of the rest of us as control subjects; if there are things we should check to make it possible to describe the remaining problem reproducibly to help Apple get this fixed or design a workaround, we're glad to help.

Thank you very much for your help, I've kind of given up hope for now, at least until I hear back from Apple.

It does all seem very odd that people are seeing different results...

It does technically say that iCloud for windows does not support Click-to-Run versions of Outlook (System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support) , which does technically cover Office 365 subscriptions, but some people have this set-up working so I'm a bit lost.

But thanks again for the help,

Lets hope Apple come back to me with something productive rather than just a suggestion that I contact microsoft.

    Regards,

    James

This entire experience has been strange.  I am writing this on a Dell Latitude running Windows 10, Office 2016 and iCloud.  It's been syncing perfectly for months and hasn't stopped one time.  On the other hand, I have a hand-built desktop, with top of the line hardware running identical software and it hasn't worked with Office 2016 until iCloud 5.1.  There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason.

    Good Luck
