Q: Is it time to install el capitan.  I have yosemite with latest updates and I want to wait until el capitan has been debugged before upgrading.  I noticed a major el capitan update dec 8 2015.

Is it time to upgrade from my yosemite 10.10.5 to El Capitan or should I await another update or two?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), iPhone 5s, ios 9.2

El Capitan: I upgraded a mid 2009 MacBook Pro about 2 months ago and have had problems since then. I usually wait a long time to upgrade to new OS but this is my wife's notebook and not as critical as the machine I use for work so I upgraded earlier against my longstanding rule to wait. Now I remember why I waited. I have spent many hours trying fixes but nothing has worked so far. I had hopes that update version 10.11.2 might fix the problems but to no avail. I will probably go back to last backup with Yosemite. Some people have had success with El Capitan but I have seen a lot of info on problems with this update online in my research for a fix to the MacBook Pro. If your computer critical to you I would suggest waiting a while to update.

iOS 9.2: I installed on iPhone 5s and have no problems that I know of.

If you wait about eight to ten months, the new OS will likely be released and you can then wait for it to be updated far enough along for you to feel comfortable.

I haven't had any problems with El Capitan short of some very minor stuff.

No, it is not time, and I suspect it may never be time. Apple focus is forever on the future. El Capitan may be the best (and/or only) choice for Apple's newest hardware, but user experience has shown that those with older hardware are best off sticking with the OS their computer came with for as long as it is supported -- which these days, sadly, is not very long.
