Q: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

My itunes has been fine. All of a sudden today it's now giving me this error: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

I don't have my firewall turned on. I logged out of itunes, quit itunes, logged back in - still a problem.

Was there an update and this is now a bug? HELP!

Thanks!

I believe this to be Apples problem on their end... on other forums, they are reporting the same problem...

I feel nowadays the more Apple's software gets "upgraded" or "updated", the more problem they bring. And it takes too long and sometimes forever for them to fix the issue, and of course, when one issue is fixed, another more annoying issue comes.

I have been getting the same message every few minutes for the last several days.  Only thing that helps is to close iTunes.  Of course this is only temporary until iTunes is opened again by the system or intentionally by me.

I have been seeing this issue on 2 machines. Interestingly I have 2 wifi networks with one on 2.4 Ghz and the other on 5 Ghz. Only when connected to the 5Ghz did the error message pop up. Nevertheless, I was also unable to see all of my music via Music Match. Once I went into the View menu and selected 'See iCloud Music Purchases' the music reappeared and the error message went away.

That seemed to have helped me! I had this problem crop up on a few regularly subscribed podcasts last week. Didn't think much of it, but then this week, nothing would download. Very aggravating. Tried seemingly everything. Couldn't download that security update in the app store either.

Even dragged my iMac to the Apple Store in Deer Park, IL (Shout out to Steven at the Genius Bar!). Problem did not appear there. He deleted a few things, tried a few things, couldn't replicate the error. managed to download and install that security update.

Got home, error cropped up again, but clearing the warnings and cache worked! Thanks AJ Tobar! Granted, it's still downloading a little slow, but nothing like last night where that security update was showing over an hour remaining. Seriously. All that's left is hoping the podcasts I pay for will download. Crossing my fingers!

To me, it looks like it's an error on Apple's end somewhere, but what do I know?

FWIW, my iMac, where I'm seeing this message several times a day is wired to my DSL modem. I will try turning WiFi off and see if that helps.

I have no Firewall except the standard one in OS X (El Capitan, at the moment) and iTunes does have privileges.

Oh, and no this is not a general inability to connect to iTunes Store or to my Apple ID. It's just a spurious warning message.

Same problem here. Bought a new MBP with retina display 2 weeks ago so i didn't have any peripherals or whatsoever installed yet, iTunes worked fine. i started to get this error when i upgraded to El Capitan last weekend 12/5.

I wonder if the problem only happens with El Capitan OS users or is it like this in general. weird.

Yes, I have seen it on both my macbook pro's. I have one at work and one at home and both are displaying the same error message. I am using El Capitan on both machines as well. Both laptops were on different networks.

It is not just El Capitan users.  I'm using Yosemite and have the issue.

Given that users can no longer play purchased video content, you'd think Apple would be strongly motivated to fix this.  I won't be buying/renting anything until this is fixed.

How did you give 443 a pass? I have no Firewall except the one in El Capitan, and it has no way to configure this particular number.

What do you mean that users can no longer play purchased video content? I have only one purchased movie, and it sure looks like it's downloading. I'd have to wait hours to see if I can actually play it, but I got no warnings from iTunes.

Everything else I've tried with the Apple Store has worked fine.

Same problem here. Interesting note: when I'm on wireless at work the error shows up, but when I'm connected via ethernet cable, it does not. At least so far.

Same problem here. I've had the issue for several weeks. I did just try this:

"What seems to have fixed it for me is going to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and resetting the Dialog Warnings and resetting the cache."

And then closed iTunes, and reopened it. No error, after getting the error all morning. Except I just got back on my computer, woke it up from sleep mode and guess what, the iTunes error is back.

I'm also having an issue with my iPhone in which it is not able to do automatic backups since I upgraded to iOS9. Tons of threads on this issue. Nothing will fix it.

So, two issues involving Apple servers (backup and iTunes) that have appeared from nowhere, are affecting TONS of users, have been going on for a few months and no way to fix.

I have the same problem. Started up yesterday. Must be on Apple's end with so many users complaining about it.
