Q: iOS9 Airdrop to Mac not working

Trying to connect iPhone 6+ iOS9 to 2013 iMac OS X 10.10.5 via Airdrop but not showing up on iMac or iPhone, worked perfectly before iOS 9.

 

iPhone can Airdrop to another iPhone and iMac can Airdrop to another Mac, but not iPhone to/from Mac.

 

iOS update was originally done OTA and have reinstalled through iTunes.

 

Have tried all suggestions I have come across but still they won't connect.

 

Anyone have similar problems?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21.5 in 2.9GHZ i5 16 GB

Recent software updates of OSX El Capitan OS X 10.11.1 (15B42) in conjunction with iOS 9.1 (13B143) has cured the problem for me.... Happy days

    December 10th 2015 updated (Macbook pro retina early 2015) to 10.11.2 and iPad 4 to IOS 9.2 and Airdrop STILL not working. My iPhone 6 and iPad can airdrop to each other but the macbook is still in a black hole ...c'mon Apple get this fixed !! btw I'm in Australia if that makes a difference.

    Can you open the AirDrop window in the Finder, and then open the Terminal application and paste in the following command and hit return.

     

    apple80211 -awdl_secondary_master_channel


    What does it print out?

    most of u all agree that iOS 9 caused it but for me i think is el capitan. i'm still on iOS 8.4.1 and airdrop works great at yosimite, but problem started when upgraded to el capitan. Done all the suggestion above but still no good results

    blinkingacid, have you upgraded to 10.11.2 (released yesterday).  Are you in Europe?

    I'm in asia region and no...i'm still at 10.11.1. Will give it a try to upgrade to 10.11.2, thanks for the update

    By the way, following a router restart, I am pleased to report AirDrop from the phone to the Mac now working fine - no longer necessary to look for the phone via the Mac's Finder first.

    hello , may i ask how you got it to work , i have been trying since end september /oct im in uk i can not get i phone on ios 9 to connect on my i mac late 2013, yet my i pad i never updated to ios 9 , it still on ios 8 and thats fine, the weired thing is i phone on ios 9 will find i pad on ios8 yet not the mac i have given up trying , its now december they still not tried to fix it and theres lots people in same mess apple needs sort it windows was a pain for messing and not fixing there mess, no point trying help again they just tell you anything to get you off  the phone fed up with it , if you fixed please can you tell me how you did please

    I just got a new iPhone 6s last weekend and my AirDrop is to working.  It was working fine with my iPhone 5S with the latest version of El Capitan.  I tried the suggestion about restrictions and that did nothing.  Between constant app lock ups since the latest El Capitan update and now this issue with AirDrop, I'm thinking El Capitan h

    Mine mysteriously started working 2 nights ago and that was before the latest iOS update push.  It may have been related to troubleshooting an unrelated issue with my iPhone 6S I was working with Sprint to resolve.  Hopefully it will stick!

    Good evening everyone , to fix this problem , the following settings must be done on various Apple devices.
    1 / Disable Connection Sharing on iOS device (iPhone or iPad )
    2 / On Macbook , go to System Preferences / Network / Advanced: delete the name (name used for sharing connection) of your device (iPhone or iPad) from the list of preferred networks.

    3/ save and close.
    4 / Reboot your Macbook and try to connect it to your iOs device via  AirDrop . It's going to market very well.

    I am running El Capitan 10.11.2 on iMac, an iPad Air 2 OS 9.2, an iPhone 6 OS 9.2. But the Airdrop still not working well. What am I supposed to do? i've tried most all of suggestion that written here.

    I have an iMac and an iPhone 5S. The same problem occurred after upgrading to El Capitan and iOS 9. None of the solutions proposed in this topic worked for me.

     

    But the problem was solved after the upgrade to iOS 9.2. So:

    El Capitan 10.11.2 + IOS 9.1 -> not working, but

    El Capitan 10.11.2 + IOS 9.2 -> AirDrop is working again !
