Q: transfer songs from iphone to mac?

I accidentally deleted songs on my laptop that are still on my iPhone. I tried to sync to have these songs "redownloaded" onto my laptop but that did not work.

These songs are not purchased, they were imported from my own CDs.

There are a few software claiming to do that but: "MacX iPhone mounter" crashes, "anytrans" claims the free trial is expired forcing you to purchase... I dont want to download a 3rd software to still end up with the same result.

What is the solution? free one?

I tried to have iTunes "locate" the missing songs but it can not "see" my iPhone for that purpose

Gurus out there? help?

Thank you!

When they got deleted from iTunes, do you know if it deleted the file from the computer as well? If it's only missing in iTunes, the files will still be on your computer.

You can open Finder, then click on your Home Folder (the house). Go to Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music.

Assuming you haven't been messing with the iTunes folder/settings, iTunes will have copied the music file to this folder.

Do you use Time Machine? It would be easiest to just restore the songs using a backup. To my knowledge there is not a way to transfer music from the iPhone to the computer without a third party program.

i deleted them when I was "cleaning" big files and found that "music" folder which was under artists in my itunes music folder, I looked at other songs and they were not in that folder: they were in the regular (up the tree) music folder so I thought they were duplicates... so i deleted the folder now it turns out itunes (or I by mistake) had created this sub folder "music" and had songs in it

i have older back ups but dont one to replace new with old as it will be missing some of the more recent items

Can a back up be opened, then select only what I want and drag it back/copy onto a new folder?

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

If you are using Time Machine, connect your backup drive. You can navigate to the iTunes folder, then click the Time Machine icon in the top right and "Enter Time Machine."

Use the "galaxy" view to go back far enough to find your songs, then click the songs and hit "restore." This should put the songs back where they were before they got deleted. Once the songs are restored, you will most likely have to add them back into iTunes by dragging the songs into iTunes.

Take a look at this article too. This may help if your iTunes/iTunes Media folders are messed up little:

Locate and organize your iTunes media files - Apple Support

If you are using a backup software other than Time Machine, you will have to contact the developer to find out how to use it.

    Thanks to all

I ended up using one of the recommended 3rd party software (iTunes backwards)

and selecting one by one the missing songs... painful but next time ill double check before hitting delete!

thanks to all for the help
