Q: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

My itunes has been fine. All of a sudden today it's now giving me this error: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

I don't have my firewall turned on. I logged out of itunes, quit itunes, logged back in - still a problem.

Was there an update and this is now a bug? HELP!

Thanks!

    Followup

Given that others have said they regained movies in El Capitan, I decided to try the following:

Log out of my account in the iTunes Store. (Note my last message, where the only thing not working was a purchased movie.)

Log into my account (the same account as I just logged out of).

iTunes welcomed me to iTunes Match (which I've had on since day one) and proceeded to check to be sure everything was matched.

The purchased movie immediately played, and even asked if I wanted to resume where I left off.

    Worth a try at least.

Also, I haven't seen the iTunes 443 error all day, more than 8 hours.

Just tried logging out of iTunes (then quitting and restarting iTunes to be thorough). Logged back in, purchased content still doesn't play.

Security Update 2015-006 is out and it fixed the issue for me! (I'm on 10.10.5 / 10.3.2).

(Type sudo softwareupdate --install "Security Update 2015-006-1.0"

in a Terminal if it doesn't download via App Store).

Security Update 2015-006 appears to have repaired iTunes.

The version that appears in App Store worked.  (The version recommended using Terminal, did not.)

    Yay.

Same here - Movies are playing again!

Great to have this mess behind us! Reasonably quick turnaround too.

CCAPPL, it seems that 2015-006 security update fixed it for osx 10.10.5, can you update the answer so that people visiting the thread can see that answer quickly?

Yes! Me too: the today security update has resolved the problem (and I'm still using 10.10.5).

Wouldn't that be nice if Apple gave feedback that it was working on or has solved bugs?    But that doesn't seem to be the way Apple works.

Seems to be fixed for me as well, can't say if the latest iTunes update sorted it (running latest El Capitan) because it was ok for two days prior - but it was not a "continuous" issue anyhow and force quitting iTunes always sorted it for a while, plus never experienced any of the failures to play downloaded content. Will Apple ever admit what was behind it, let's not hold our breath!

Several days ago I noticed two iTunes problems which at first I thought were unrelated: the port 443 error and the inability to play videos purchased on iTunes. From this thread, it now appears that the two problems are often connected. I spent roughly 4 hours talking to a number of people at Apple about the issues to no avail - they said they would talk to "Engineering" and get back to me in up to 5 days.

The solution for me was to reinstall the OS (I am on the latest Yosemite). It took about an hour and afterward both problems were completely resolved. It is pretty easy: reboot holding down Command and R at the same time and select "Reinstall OS X" from the pop-up menu. It can be done without any additional input and it restores most settings and doesn't harm existing apps on your computer.

    Good luck.

From my previous post regarding the issue that now appears resolved (still so far so good) - I did alter one other setting in an attempt to resolve prior to updating to the latest iTunes when Apple made it available. Because a previous poster reported talking to Apple who basically pointed the finger at his network settings, I tried changing my DNS settings on the router. Previously had it set to Google (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) but altered to "Get automatically from ISP" and rebooted the unit. Following that change never had to force quit iTunes again - but as I said before can't say if any of the changes tried resolved the problem or if it just got resolved at Apples end with time (have not changed my DNS back yet because it's speed seems fine so far).

no problems now for 3 days (touch wood). Seems clear it was an Apple server side glitch. Running latest El Cap and iTunes.

I have been free of this problem for 3+ days.

My solution was like others:  Update iTunes to the latest version.  I am still on Yosemite but running iTunes version 12.3.2.35.

My issue has fixed itself  by downloading the security update as others have done. Now if there was a way to fix my iCloud backups, that would be great. Another thread, another day.
