Q: When will the update be available that fixes the glitches with iMovie and OS X El Capitan?

When will the update be available that fixes the glitches with iMovie and OS X El Capitan?  It does not show the pictures that I've included in projects and seems to skip intermittently throughout my projects.

iMac (intel-based), Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Are you asking about iMovie v9 or v10?

I updated to the latest iMovie in hopes that that would fix the issue, but it hasn't. So, OS X El Capitan hasn't worked with either version of iMovie. I did do the update from yesterday, but that didn't work.

What issues with iMovie 10? I find that it works fine, I just don't like the interface. I would like to have the option stated in the sales pitch about upgrading, that when "Updating" iMovie v9 movies the iMovie v9 files are left in tact so you can use either version of iMovie. To this point in El Capitan that is a lie. I have yet to find anyone that is able to use iMovie v9 and El Capitan.

IT won't show still photos that I have imported from Photos - it just shows a black screen. Some of the videos skip also. It's really frustrating! It happens with new projects I make also. I would like to restore my computer to pre-OS X El Capitan! Also, they have eliminated Space Saver as an option for deleting unused footage as well, which is frustrating.

You are describing the issues with iMovie v9 not v10. So you obviously have NOT updated to the latest iMovie.

I am watching several other discussions to see if the system update of El Capitan (10.11.2) will fix the problem with iMovie v9 and El Capitan.

iMovie v10 (the latest) runs fine with El Capitan but the interface is way different. Much like Final Cut and iMovie HD. You may want to try the new version and see if you like it. It does the same things just hard to find all of them in the new format.

I have done every possible update and I have the same problems as Marsberry - as in "It won't show still photos that I have imported from Photos - it just shows a black screen".  Exactly the same problem.

Unfortunately, I am having issues with iMovie 10.  I had the same issues with iMovie prior to updating it, which makes me realize the issues lie with El Capitan.  I have spent over 5 hours on the phone with Apple Support and they have told me that the engineers are working on it.  I'm just curious to know how long these updates generally take to create.  I have a video of our daughter's first year that I wanted to show at her 1st birthday, but can't because of all of these glitches.

I am having the same issue with El Capitan and iMovie (10.1).  I have tried everything!!  I now have isolated this problem to my MacBook Pro Retina display late 2014.  I can get the iMovie to work on an older iMac (prob 4 yrs old) that is running el Capitan as well (until it stops?).  I CAN NOT believe that Apple is not working on this issue. I just had an update for el Capitan and NOTHING was addressed with iMovie .

I have uninstalled and reinstalled. There are no preferences in el Capitan and nothing to do in disk utilities

I would appreciate any help from APPLE!  In all my years with Apple (1984) I have never been without an application like I have experienced presently I can edit all day, save in the Theater and it shows in Projects, but I CAN NOT export these files in any way!! HELP

Marsberry & julnol; I have not heard of this problem in any the discussions and contacts I have using iMovie v10. But it is a problem in ALL El Capitan and version 9. I have yet to find ANYONE that can run El Capitan and iMovie v9.

If indeed you are using iMovie v10 and having this problem, my suggestion would be to create a new "Library", quit iMovie, move the original "Library" into a folder somewhere. Then try creating a movie in the new Library and see if you have the same problem.

julnol, try pulling a photo from the Finder into your movie and see if that works.

I have the same "black screen" problem. tried everything, created a new library, drag a photo directly from the finder into my movie, still not working.

Have you tried a Library on an external drive? I have read of one user having problems with his iMovie v10 and finally discovered the problem was hard drive related.

I have spent over 3 hours on the phone with a senior tech support analyst with Apple and they have had me run lots of different tests - even having me create a new user on my computer and create a new library, etc.  The problem still exists.  He assured me that they were having their engineers work on the issue and that I needed to just keep checking for updates.  That was over 3 weeks ago.  I'm not sure how long this usually takes, but it is highly frustrating.  Basically I'm using the computer for internet and email now - a very expensive computer for those items.  I want iMovie back and functioning!  It is comforting to know that I am not the only one with this problem.  However, I don't have more hours to give to phone support with no results.
