Q: Cannot download purchases for 90 days

Hi

We are a couple, we have one main desktop computer at home.

We both have our own separate computer user account for this desktop

We both have our own separate itune account

Problem:

My "side" of the desktop for my log on with my own itune account was set up first and all is fine. All music in the right folder (C:\Users\myusername\Music\iTunes\iTunes\Music).Apps, films all there. Media Library ok, Playlist set up and purchases downloaded.

Setting up my partner's side with his own log one and own itune account went fine as far as library and playlist were concerned. All his music tracks can be found in the right location (C:\Users\hisusername\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media). Films and  apps are all there in the right folder ...

...and then a pop up window advising that the computer is already linked to one user account (mine, since I set up myself first) and therefore if I carry on I would not be able to download my purchases for 90 days...

Why should apple penalise for 90 days one user in a couple when this couple has only one desktop? Seems unfair and intrusive in our choices.

We want to have very separate computer accounts with our own passwords, we want our own itune account, we want to download our own music and other purchases for our own  account.. yet it seems apple knows best and will not allow us to do so.....

Maybe it the the end of our apple/itune/ipad/iphone era and a new era of android/amazon or windows music.... seems more flexible

Any way this 90 days issue can be solved (not involving a second computer or a joint itune access) most welcome

Take a look at View and remove associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support.

As far as I can tell you should be able to maintain two profiles connected to two different store accounts, and make and download new purchases in either account. The restriction limits you to using iCloud Music Library, iTunes Match, Family Sharing, automatic downloads of items purchased on another computer or device, or redownloading past purchases from your account, to a single active account. The other account may only make new purchases, and of course play existing ones.
