Q: downloading music from my mac to Iphone 6s

Hello: is there a way to download the music from my Macbook to my Iphone 6s without using Itunes from the computer? ( is kind of old, i believe 10 years ) the last update was ( 10.6.8 ) and i'm in desperate need of all of the other music on the computer. It's obvious I'll have to use an additional app to do so, I don't have another choice, any help would be very appreciated, thanks

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2

Is the music purchased from the iTunes Store, or is it music you have loaded to your iTunes Library on your Mac from CDs or other media?

Then you would need either iTunes Match or Apple Music or both in order to store ripped CDs to the iCloud Music Library. Here is an article that provides some comparisons between the two:

If "10.6.8" is the version of the OS X operating system he has, he can't use Apple Music as it needs a version of iTunes that won't install on that old a Mac OS X. Not sure about iTunes Match as I never used it.

If you can't update the operating system of your Mac to a newer version, then you also can't update iTunes to a version that will work with your iPhone 6s.

And as far as I know - aside from jailbreaking the iPhone's operating system which I no absolutely nothing about - you can't use any other programs to move music to the iPhone except iTunes.

You do not need a Mac or iTunes to subscribe to and use Apple Music. Same with iTunes Match. You need iCloud Music Library which is totally separate from iTunes.

Correct  BUT the OP asked about moving music from his computer to his iPhone - NOT to use Apple Music. So tell me how without iTunes (or a jailbroken iPhone) how the OP can get music that is on his older Mac to his iPhone? He used - incorrectly in this case - the term "download music", as the music was not in "the cloud" but on his older Mac.

The point being that without iTunes the music cannot be sync'd to the device. However, using Apple Music or iTunes Match or both will achieve the same ends. I was providing the two options that the OP has based on the the circumstances.

The OP needs to get the music into "the cloud", and that is the only way to do it considering the OS X level.

The reason I supplied the link was so that the OP could see the context of those options.

Also, your original response to my post stated that without the latest version of iTunes the OP would not be able to use those options. That is not correct.

HE can't use Apple Music unless he can upgrade his operating system as iTunes that first introduced Apple Music required at least a later version of Lion - I believe 10.7.5 - and he does not have that as he indicated in his original post. So where was my response to your post incorrect? I did say that I did not know which version of iTunes introduced iTunes Match - but the OP said he wanted to do his "download" without iTunes.
