Q: How do I get bootcamp 6.1 / AMD 15.201.2001.0 drivers

I'm running an iMac 5k with a AMD 295.

I previously had the latest AMD drivers installed from October

AMD Radeon R9 M295

Driver version: 15.201.2001.0

Driver date: 10/5/2015

But then I experimented with other drivers and now I can't get Apple Update to send me it's latest drivers again. I've tried uninstall the drivers, I've reinstalling apple update, etc etc. I've tried using bootcamp assistant but it keeps giving me the older drivers from August.

Perhaps apple stored the previous driver in a directory I don't know about or maybe someone happens to have the drivers somewhere on their system that I can use? Please don't tell me to reinstall windows.

Thanks!

I was hoping you would copy/paste it, and it would show up as ....

    -m iMac17,1

If it cannot get a valid -m qualifier, it will use the current machine's model.

It is a new bootcamp. I tried installing it but it tells me "This version of boot camp is not intended for this computer model."

I then tried going to the AMD directory. It just installs the audio driver, and install manager.

I then uninstall the display drivers. Same results.

You cannot use the setup.exe in Bootcamp directory, because of a different product code. You need to install the drivers by hand.

The entry I sent you earlier should be for an inf file as shown

    <InfName>C0295241.inf</InfName>

In Device Manager, right click on your AMD GPU, click on Update Driver -> Have Disk and point to the .inf file. The .exe in that directory is just a manager.

I tried that earlier to that INF file, still doesn't work.

I checked inside the ini file and there are no entries about 295 or PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6938&SUBSYS_013A106B&REV_00       (<--- 295 hardware ID)

edit: hold on. Maybe it will.

It wants me to choose model, it's not listed.

Yeah but it's asking what model I have. Should i just choose m395? 295 is not on the list.

Before you choose a model, see the link I posted. If there is no 295, choose 395. The 17,1 models are on the R3xx series, while the older ones are R2xx series.

I did. Some people got it to work a different way. It's not through this ini route.

    edit: in progress.

I did a fresh install. I got the drivers from October.

Ugh.. Bootcamp. Thanks though loner. I learned a lot, like always. I come here way too much with too many problems with bootcamp.

It did. I noticed a few things too.

1.What's odd is that some folders were left over in my Bootcamp drive folder still. I clearly chose for them to get rid of all the files (the "not keep all files" option).

    2. "Not keeping my files" fixed a piece of hardware that was unknown (likely USB or bluetooth related), I forgot what device it was.

Last week I did a Windows reset before where they are suppose to toss out all the drivers, so I guess when I did that, it didn't really toss all the driver / system files.

    3. ALSO, if you goto Windows, and choose KEEP FILES, you have to click an option below it to reveal that you want to KEEP files BUT to DELETE the system files, or it will literally go through the install process and do absolutely nothing. You'll come back to Windows 10 with the same drivers and your files still there (that was frustrating).

Also I can't simply goto the Reset Windows option (it won't acknowledge my recovery media). I opened up the Windows ISO, and just did the install process from there.

Also I used the github link to download bootcamp drivers through windows (just to save a few steps). After bootcamp, I was able to update via apple update (which I'd love an explanation why it needs me to reinstall windows completely to obtain).

But yeah. That's it. I got the drivers I want. Can apple or microsoft just hire me as the "why the **** does this do that" guy. I can find so many things.

Can you create a Windows System Restore point before do you allow any further updates?
