Q: Use of an iTunes card in a family share account

My wife and I have a shared family account and she has 150+ in her iTunes gift credit but every time that she wants to purchase something, iTunes sends me back the request and charges my credit card without giving her the chance to use her own credi. The only solution was to take her out of the shared account; which we see as a very poor way from Apple to allow a mixed usage

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Core i7 / 16Gb RAM / SSD-HDD

If she is not the family organiser then it should automatically use her balance (a family organiser can't use a balance on their account) - if it's not you could try contacting iTunes Support in your country and see if they can see why it's charging your card : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww

Yeah, I know "it should" but its not (she is not the organizer),  also after reading other posts, I can tell its not Country-Store related, its a general iTunes issue; so far the only option was to take her out of the family sharing unti she finishes her gift card credit

Have you contacted iTunes Support to see if they can see why it's happening ?

HI King Penguin! Yes and they told me that they are going to look into it, because (and these are two answers from two different calls) they told me that 1. The credit card gets pre-charged and then reversed (very much like how hotels make their check-in transactions-also this is an answer someone else got-) and if the user has enough credit in the gift card, then it gets deduced from there, otherwise it finishes the remaining credit and then charges the main card; or 2. What you just told me.
