Nov 8, 2015 4:46 PM in response to richiefromtemaby K Shaffer,There is a camera icon in the small menu bar in the window where you type in your reply.
If you have a jpg or screenshot image on the desktop, or image from a camera you have
brought into a computer, you can select it from the computer desktop or other file/folder
and it should load to the reply window.
Then you can add text or complete the thread & it should post here; if not try again within
a few minutes because the opportunity to change a post runs out of time. The edit option
is to be found under the Gear icon above the post section after it's online. And if you reply
to existing thread, the Edit appears for awhile within its same post window; & it will time-out.
Do you have the original install-restore DVD for the OS X version running in the iBook now?
It can be used to start up the computer, for troubleshooting purposes; without erasing the HDD.
Sorry that nobody has seen or replied to your thread until now...

Dec 12, 2015 4:14 AM in response to richiefromtemaby K Shaffer,If the system install disc version is not the correct one for the iBook G4 build model,
odd effects may result. And if there is a version 10.4 grey label install DVD from a
MacBook, that may not work at all, even though early Intel macs shipped with 10.4
their installer was specific to that architecture.
Usually an iBook G4 setup from booted Install-restore DVD, does not ask for a
bluetooth mouse nor does it require the presence of one for the install to work.
(Mine certainly never asked for one; in fact no portable Apple I've had ever did.)
In the window as appears in your screenshot, can you click on the arrow in the screen
that may move to the right and expose more information on another window?
If you have an appropriate Bluetooth wireless mouse, you could attempt to use it.
However the built-in trackpad is USB and if there is a hardware issue, one would
usually try and use a regular USB Apple keyboard and wired mouse. I keep spares
on hand for use with portables and also to have backup or to troubleshoot issues.
As the time here is after 3AM I'm not able to offer much/any suggestions, & should
be going offline to attempt sleep; so I'm sorry that my reply isn't all that helpful...
Hopefully someone will be around and may offer a reply based on having seen
the screen while attempting to set up an older PowerPC based white iBook G4.
One that appears to also be asking for a wireless Mighty Mouse or similar.
Good luck in your effort to gain further progress in this situation...

Dec 13, 2015 3:00 PM in response to richiefromtemaby K Shaffer,Addendum: more about this from elsewhere online, if you cannot
work around this issue and actually do have the correct for model
iBook original media install-restore DVD kit, or a later retail supported
OS X install (later than original OS X included) that is not grey-label,
and can't get past issue with wired USB keyboard & mouse, you may
have a portable Apple computer that may need replacement parts to
fix the problem. Some findings suggest the top case, where touchpad
and circuitry exists, could be at fault. Some models had other solder
joint issues, where suggested repairs or home-brew fixes vary.
So I'm not sure how you may attempt to troubleshoot this, but most
computer shops that specialize in Apple portables may be able to
help (diagnose & repair) if their staff had been trained in this vintage.
Parts are another matter. PoweBookmedic may have something. Or
a repair service such as wegenermedia.com has a good reputation.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

Dec 13, 2015 4:35 PM in response to richiefromtemaby my ginger,This is telling you that you need a wireless or USB mouse. As the internal trackpad will not work. Had this on an Ibook using a Grey Disc G-4 installer disk for Tiger. After the install and setup the trackpad will work.
