If you want to share information wirelessly between your MacBook Air and your iPhone, take a look at these options for the most recent OS X. I've highlighted some key information for you below. Click on the links for complete details.
Share content with AirDrop from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204144What you need
To share content with AirDrop, both people need one of these devices using iOS 7 or later, or a Mac with OS X Yosemite or later:
- iPhone 5 or later
- iPad Pro
- iPad (4th generation) or later
- iPad mini or later
- iPod touch (5th generation) or later
You also need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If you want to share with your contacts, sign in to iCloud.
Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203106With AirDrop, you can wirelessly send photos, videos, websites, locations, and more to a nearby iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
What you need
Make sure that both devices can use AirDrop:
- On Mac computers, choose Go from the menu bar in the Finder. If the Go menu includes AirDrop, that Mac can use AirDrop.
- On iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) open Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. If AirDrop is in Control Center, that iOS device can use AirDrop.
Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204681Continuity lets you seamlessly move between your iOS devices and your Mac, or use them together.
Continuity features include Handoff, iPhone Cellular Calls, SMS, and Instant Hotspot. For example, you can start an email or document on your iPhone and pick up where you left off on your iPad. Or you can use your iPad or Mac to make and receive phone calls through your iPhone.
Handoff
With Handoff, you can start a document, email, or message on one device and pick up where you left off from another device. Handoff works with Apple apps like Mail, Safari, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Some third-party apps are also compatible.
Set up Handoff
- Check that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices.
- Turn on Bluetooth on all of your devices and connect them to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure that your devices are near each other.
Use Handoff
- On one of your devices, open a compatible app, like Mail or Pages.
- Use the app to start a task, like writing an email or a document.
- Then you can switch to a different iOS device or Mac. If you switch to a Mac, you can press Command-Tab to pick up where you left off, or you can click the app icon in your Dock:

iCloud Drive FAQ
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201104iCloud Drive lets you securely access all of your documents from your iOS device, Mac, and Windows PC. So no matter which device you’re using, you'll always have the most up to date documents when you need them.
Here's what you can do with iCloud Drive:
- Store and access all of your documents in one place from any of your devices
- Keep files and folders up to date across all your devices
- Create new files and folders from iCloud-enabled apps
- Work on the same file across multiple apps
- Access your files on the go from the iCloud Drive app with iOS 9
As you can see, there are lots of ways to share information and work seemlessly between your Mac and your iPhone. Happy Holidays to you!
