Dec 11, 2015 3:12 PM in response to jibjab32by Niel,Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu, open the Pictures folder, and drag the iPhoto library to a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended. If the iPhoto library isn't in the default location, find it first.

Dec 11, 2015 3:22 PM in response to jibjab32by Allan Eckert,WOW! Your Mac is certainly out of date.
10.5.8 is so old I have completely forgotten about it by now.
I mean it was introduced in Aug of 2009.
Is there a reason you have not upgraded?

Dec 11, 2015 3:23 PM in response to jibjab32by Niel,1. Click on the icon in the Dock with the smiling face, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, and click on Go.
2. The method I described above creates a one-shot copy of the iPhoto library. If you choose to back up items outside of your home folder or keep a continuous record of your data, a different one is required.
Mac OS X 10.5.8 is new enough to have both of those, but you'll need to separately get an external drive to protect your data in case the internal one fails.

Dec 13, 2015 1:38 PM in response to Allan Eckertby jibjab32,Thank you, everyone. iPhoto shaped up by rebuilding the library by downloading iPhoto Library Manager and using it's commands. What a relief.

Dec 14, 2015 6:22 AM in response to jibjab32by clodo9,this time was only a warning ...
It's very easy ( and efficient, and unexpensive ) to backup your MOST IMPORTANT PHOTOS on DVDs.
Practice on a rewritable DVD, and then use DVD + R for the real backup.

Dec 14, 2015 8:36 AM in response to jibjab32by Terence Devlin,Just remember that DVD is a dying technology, and going the way of the floppy disk. Most consumer quality optical media is prone to corrosion. But other than that, they're fine.
