Q: My watch keeps passcode locking after upgrading to iOS2.1

My watch used to only need the passcode when I first put it on in the morning.

It would know that it was on my wrist for the rest of the day, as it should.

Since upgrading to Watch OS 2.1 It continually needs to passcode unlock while still on my wrist.

Today alone, I had to unlock it about 20 times.

Apple Support suggested turning off Wrist Recognition but that would disable ApplePay and the Health Tracking features.

Help? Suggestions?

Apple Watch, watchOS 2.1, pairing with an iPhone 6s

    Hi Adam

    If your watch has a hardware fault, it may be eligible for warranty service (subject to the usual warranty terms).

    In order to help Apple Support determine whether your watch should be checked under warranty, it may be prudent to follow their recommended troubleshooting steps (which may include disabling and re-enabling both Wrist Detection and Passcode) and continuing with your support case.

    Hi - try these steps, checking after each:

    • Restart both your iPhone and your watch. Turn both off together, then restart your iPhone first:
      • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;
      • To turn it on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    • Force restart both devices (iPhone first, followed immediately by the watch):
      • iPhone: press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for around 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
      • Watch: press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for around 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
