Oct 23, 2015 1:29 PM in response to hello hello hey nowby BobHarris,Scam. Your web browser cannot see nor identify malware on your Mac.
Do not click on any links.
Do not install any software.
Do not call their phone numbers.
Do not give them credit card numbers.
Do not let them access your system.
If you have allowed them access, then assume your system is compromised.

Oct 24, 2015 2:44 PM in response to BobHarrisby hello hello hey now,Scam? first of all I am writing because I think this is malware/virus/scam what ever it is it looks shady.
here is more info
I recently got a pop up window (that looks like a regular apple software update) asking to update software.
but it didn't look quite right to me and I noticed an orange box looking symbol in the dock at the bottom of my screen.
I open force quit and I see "appSY' among the running programs. After I force quit "appSY"
the software update window and the orange box in the dock go away.
I googled "appSY" and get nothing related. I googled "appSY mac" and didn't find much about "aapSY" besides 1 post (which I just posted to) and this link (5th one down)
https://www.iboostup.com/app/com.yshur.appys
I just emailed them asking whats up and waiting their reply. I want to remove this appSY!
I also recently had the lexside malware/virus take over safari and I think I removed it properly.
Thanks

Oct 24, 2015 3:36 PM in response to hello hello hey nowby John Galt,Read Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages.
I don't know what "appSY" is but legitimate software updates can be found by launching the Mac App Store and clicking the "Updates" button at its upper right. A spontaneously appearing webpage or popup indicating the need to install software should be summarily disregarded as fraudulent.
The website you referenced looks like many others that serve no purpose other than to advertise garbage that should never be installed on any Mac. That only benefits the advertiser. You're the one who pays.

Dec 14, 2015 3:00 PM in response to hello hello hey nowby Ollie2244,I am having the exact same problem and what John Galt suggested doesn't fix it.
Also if you go on to Activity Monitor (Which can be found using Spotlight) sometimes you will see Appys using up all your RAM.

Jun 2, 2016 6:47 AM in response to hello hello hey nowby spiraleye,Any new information on this?
I have the exact same situation happening, with a fake software update window appearing that cannot be dismissed without using Force Quit. I am also having memory issues with my Adobe Suite... perhaps related to this AppYs activity?
Does anyone here (Apple?) have details on how to uninstall effectively? If this malware/trojan... whatever it is.. is able to mimic system operations on El Capitan, this should be something Apple is taking seriously, no?
In my Applications folder I now see three rogue 'applications', that all have the same date (so I am assuming they all arrived into my system at the same time).
Asistents (spelt exactly like that, with only one 's') (with an uninstaller app and ReadMe file)
Lexside (with an uninstaller app and the exact same ReadMe file)
Quitelex (with an uninstaller app and exact same ReadMe file)
These three application icons are all the same... looking similar (but not the same as) to a package/installer icon, in yellow.
There is also a fourth folder in applications that is also new:
mg (inside the folder is an app called 'mguninstaller.app'. No Read Me file with this.)
Any advice? thank you
Jamie
PS to the person (lower down this chain) who said they ran the Quitelex uninstaller and it fixed their issues... I am suspicious that they probably ran a malware installer. Any fresh feedback available from that person is also appreciated.
