Q: unable to update apps ios 8 family sharing

Im using an iphone 6 plus. My wife and i used to share and apple id but now with ios 8 i use my own id. i have a notification that i have 7 app updates available but it gives me an error when i go to download them.

I do have our apple id's linked for family sharing and i have downloaded apps that she has purchased with her id and ive downloaded on her device apps that i have purchased with my id. so I know the linking works for that but for some reason im unable to update these free apps.
