I understand that, despite the lack of a USB connection between the two, your daughter's iPad is appearing as connected in iTunes on your computer. This is likely due to the fact that the device has been set up for Wi-Fi syncing, which will connect the iPad and iTunes as long as both are on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Additionally, when the conditions outlined below are met, then syncing will occur automatically between the two.
- The iOS device is charging.
- iTunes is open on the computer.
- The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iTunes
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203075In order to prevent this symptom, you can uncheck "Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi" when the device appears in iTunes via the steps below.
- Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
- Connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable.
- Locate your iOS device.
If you're in the iTunes Store, click the Library button, then look for your device in the upper-right corner. - In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi."
