Q: NO LONGER UPDATING

I have been unable to update via the App Store since 18/11/2015 despite the system telling me there is an update available for all users of El Capitan.Any suggestions as to what's wrong and what I need to do to get back to normality.

    Hello, AMA7185.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you are unable to update El Capitan to the most current version 10.11.2.  Are you able to elaborate on what exact behavior you are experiencing or if you are receiving any errors?  In the interim, let's try a couple things to see if we can get the update installed.  Start with going through the steps in the article directly below and test after each step.

OS X: "Cannot connect" or "Cannot connect to the App Store. An internet connection is required"

Next, try to download the combo update by clicking on the download option in the link below.  You will need to click on the download itself to install the update.

Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update

If those steps do not resolve the issue, the next step would be to try the install under a new user account.  This would help us isolate the issue to either a user profile issue or possibly something we need to investigate further.  Try both the update via the Mac App Store and the direct download link.

How to test with another user account

You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

    Create a test user account

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Click the Users & Groups icon in the System Preferences window.
    3. Click the lock icon, then enter an administrator name and password.
    4. Click the Add button (+) below the list of users.
    5. Choose a type of user from the New Account pop-up menu.
    6. Give the user a full name, account name, and password.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Close the System Preferences window.

If there are documents from your original user account that you want to test with, place a copy of these items in the Shared folder in the Users folder. Press the Option key while dragging a file to this folder to create a copy.

Log in to the test user account

Log out of your current user account by choosing Log Out from the Apple menu, then log in to the new account you created.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update

If none of these helped resolve the issue, please report back what steps you went through and the results.

    Cheers

    Jason

Thank you very much for the information/link.I have followed it and the system has now updated.I am not particularly IT savvy, so I would be grateful if you could suggest how this has come about and whether I will be able to obtain updates in the future.

    Thanks again
