Please do not use ALL UPPERCASE.  It is hard to read, and is considered shouting by most internet users.

When you say uploading your CD, are you trying to load a music CD on iTunes?     Mac OS X 10.3 is only available on CD and is very old, and so is Mac OS 9.   If you didn't use a software like Retrospect or Superduper from that era to back it up, or lost the CDs, reloading that program is hard.  You may find users at http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ who still have the original discs.

When you are in Mac OS 9, if you need to switch back to Mac OS X you have a couple options:

Apple menu -> Control Panels -> Startup Disk and select the Mac OS X system folder and hit restart to go back to Mac OS X.

If you have both operating systems on the same partition/drive reboot holding the 'X' key.

If you have both operating systems on separate partitions or drives connected to an iMac, you can reboot with the Option key and select the system folder in question, and use the Startup Manager directions:

Use the Startup Manager if 'C' key fails to work

Mac OS X will not boot on a PowerPC Mac connected via USB.  It must be connected via Firewire or be an internal drive.

If the internal optical drive is failing to work properly, it may be due to the PRAM battery needing to be replaced after 4 years.   That can be done by most service techs on an iMac.

If you have never installed 10.2 or later on your iMac, make sure its firmware is up to date first before installing.  Otherwise you may permanently blank out the screen.

I thank you for your help. Using your suggestions with slight variations I was able to restore my panther program. Frankly, I thought I lost it forever.

I wish & you  & your family a Happy Holiday & a Happy New year!

Thanks again for your great help!
