You're not talking to Apple here. This is a user-user forum.
very sad and getting frustrated with your working styles... standards are now starting to degrade
Reading would inform you that you have to turn on AirDrop on both devices for it to work. Also, AirDrop uses Bluetooth so you need to be less than 10 meters line of sight between the devices.
Turn on and set up AirDrop
On Mac computers:
- Choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder. An AirDrop window opens. If Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is turned off, you'll see a button to turn it on. AirDrop turns on automatically when Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on.
- To receive files from everyone instead of only those in your Contacts app, you can use the “Allow me to be discovered by” setting at the bottom of the AirDrop window.
On iOS devices:
- Open Control Center.
- Tap AirDrop, then choose whether to receive items from everyone or only from people in your Contacts app. Learn more.

Dec 15, 2015 10:03 PM in response to vivekmapsby modular747,Odd that you didn't mention what you tried when posting about a technical problem. Maybe if you spent as much effort describing your issue rather than whining about how Apple is doing you wrong I wouldn't have wasted my time suggesting things you already tried. I'm assuming you're actually looking for a solution.
Since AirDrop works just fine for the rest of us, the problem is at your end. Do the basic troubleshooting steps - restart, reset, restore - as described in the User Guide. If restoring to factory setting doesn't help, take it to Apple to evaluate your hardware problem

May 29, 2016 1:07 PM in response to modular747by rjacobsen,The same thing is happening with me, so concluding that "Airdrop works fine for the rest of us" is not helpful. You can't blame the user for something Apple is not doing right. AirDrop is not working between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 6. I use it normally between iMacs at work, and I expected it would work without a problem on my devices and without having to troubleshoot Bluetooth settings. I use a Bluetooth keyboard, permanently connected to the laptop, so Bluetooth is working on it. I connect my phone to my car's system, so it's also working on the phone, but suddenly it doesn't connect to my Bluetooth keyboard anymore, and it doesn't pass the pairing state with the MacBook Pro -- something that never went through between them. No code appears on any, but that varies. AirDrop never detected each other.

May 29, 2016 6:46 PM in response to rjacobsenby modular747,Hers's the point. Bluetooth and Airdrop work just fine for me and everyone I know. Ther obviously is something wrong with your Mac, nothing to do with the design. Assuming you checked the model compatibility and set it up correctly. The fact that someone else has a similar problem is irrelevant.

May 31, 2016 10:03 AM in response to vivekmapsby wheresaldo,Same problem here, unable to AirDrop from brand new Macbook Pro or brand new Macbook 12 to iPhone 6s Plus. All have the latest OS versions. All setup to AirDrop: Everyone. No firewall setup. Wifi and Bluetooth turned on. This is a critical feature in Apple products and doesn't work, very frustrating.
