Q: ios 9.2 battery drain (iPhone 6)

So I updated this evening to ios 9.2 on my iPhone 6 (from 8.4.2).  I notice a significant decrease in battery life dropping 10% in 30 mins with very little use.  It was totally fine before upgrade.  The ironic thing was that I only upgraded because people were noting improved battery life with the new ios.  I had been waiting for 9.2 to allow apple to get the bugs out.

I have tried reset with no change in behavior.

Oh well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I have Verizon and when I turn the phone to Airplane mode then battery usage appears normal.  Makes the phone useless but it leads me to believe that 9.2 and the current Verizon phone software are power hogs.  My wife has same phone but uses AT&T and she is having no problem.

I am having the same problem. My iPhone 6 on 9.2 all of a sudden drains battery in about 90 minutes! Desperately need a fix.

All - there are other threads concerning high data usage after the ios 9.2 update.  Check your data usage now... you may have burned through your data for the month in about a day or two.  Some threads suggesting Apple Music/cellular data is the culprit (even if you are not playing any music).   This battery drain and high data usage appear to be related.   For now, I've turned off cellular data under Settings-->Music--> Use Cellular Data (turned that off) and I'll see what happens.  Also go to Settings ---> Cellular and check your current period usage.  It may be REALLY high.   Then scroll all the way down (past apps) - click on "System Services" and see if your Media Services number is pretty high.  Mine was almost 1gb with "iTunes accounts" adding another 300+ mb.  The media services high usage problem had occurred with IOS updates in the past and apparently is is back.  If you are reading this and you have not updated to IOS 9.2 -- smart move.  Don't!

    Same issue after update to 9.2 from 9.1 iPhone 6 - https://twitter.com/pramod_shinde/status/675331543339020288

+ Extreme battery drain (90% drops to 10% in 2-3 hrs with background refresh turned off)

+ Overheating most of the time iPhone gets heated up - unbearable heating while charging

Both above issues were not there with iOS 9.1

FWIW, in my case the Music app was downloading and re-downloading some music videos -- the same ones continuously. 20GB of cellular data used in two days. I canceled the downloads and it solved the issue. I've now also disallowed the Music app to use cell data. Very annoying and costly bug when each extra GB over plan is $15.

Battery charged 90-100% before I went to bed.  By morning it was dead and no alarm.  This has happened twice, first time I deleted the app - it was related to background activity.  This morning it was related to weak cellular signal.  iPhone 5S + iOS 9.2 - 9.1 never had this issue

Because before 9.2 I never had to.  There were times for a while that I did to awake and find the battery/case very hot which is probably where I decided to stop charging over night.

I have exactly the same problem. The battery life is now poor. I updates my relatively new i6+ and the battery won't last day with very moderate use.

I have a related problem, except my data usage spikes when the iPhone 6 (also IOS 9.2) is charging. Absolutely maxes out my home WIFI. Unplug the phone, and everything is fine again. I hadn't seen this behavior before updating to IOS 9.2.

I use an iPhone 6S, it came preloaded with iOS 9.1 and ran like breeze. But ever since I updated to iOS 9.2, I've been experiencing battery drain issues and sometimes it even happens that when I get a call from someone my screen would ring but I do not see the caller ID of the person calling. Never before had I experienced such issues with iOS 9.1 on my iPhone 6S. Hoping Apple to release an update with bug fixes ASAP.

Exactly the same for me. iPhone 6 going from 9.1 to 9.2.

9.1 = Excellent battery life. @70% battery at end of day (after low-use). Charge the next day.

9.2 - Nothing different and it's dead after @18 hours. Will not last until the next day - even with background app refresh turned off.

Does anyone know if you can use a 9.2 backup if I was to go back to 9.1?
