I understand that you are having an issue with making a backup from your iPad, getting an error message. Is that correct? I know this would bother me, having a current backup of my devices is an important security step.
The specific error message you mention tells me you are attempting to make this backup using iCloud. If possible it would be a good idea to make a backup of your iPad using iTunes on your computer, just for safety's sake. See this article for how to do it - How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes.
Of course we want the iCloud backup to work as well. Use the steps in this article to troubleshoot - Get help backing up your device in iCloud.

- Make sure you're connected to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
- If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network.
- See if you have enough iCloud storage for your backup, and get more storage if you need it.
- If you need more help, contact Apple Support.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best to you.
