Q: Upgrade on El Capitan, Safari freezes and the Dock is too slow

Upgrading El Capitan to 11.1 on a MacBook Pro 13" - Late 2012.

- Safari freezes and it's impossible to use.

- The Dock shows and hides really slow and clunky.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

    Hello, marcosnwp.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are experiencing performance issues with Safari and your Dock.  I would need more information regarding your system specs and background processes to provide a better answer.  However, lets start with going through the troubleshooting steps outlined below.

If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues

If Safari doesn't load a page or webpage items are missing

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac

    Cheers

Go to Safari menu (At the very top right side of your screen next to Apple icon), choose "Quit Safari"

press "Shift" button and while holding this button on your keyboard single click on the Safari icon on your Dock.

Open Safari - Preferences - Privacy - Remove All Website Data.

Open the Go menu with Option (Alt) key pressed - Library - locate Safari folder and move it to your desktop. Restart your Mac, open Safari and delete the folder from your desktop.

Try opening the Go menu with the Option (Alt) key pressed - Library - Preferences and locate the file called ‘com.apple.finder.plist’. Move it to the trash and restart your computer.

    Try Safe Boot:

    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - After your Mac boots up, restart it as you usually do.

This step helped me! Thanks! Dock and Safari really became unusable after buying a Mac mini and migrating my data from my MBA...
