Q: Filename labels overlapping icons

On one of my external drives, the filename labels in some instances are overlapping the folder icons, and in others they are quite a distance from the icon. When I backed up to a new drive the problem was transferred. Is their something to trash to reset this just for an external drive?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Would you make a screen shot so people can see what you are seeing? Make sure you cover any personal information using Preview. Post the screen shot in a Reply using the camera icon or you can drag the screen shot into a reply. Copy and paste doesn't work.

I'll just add that when I arrange the layout by Name or Label etc the issue goes away (though the layout is ordered) but when I return to None it reverts to the misaligned layout. Removing the .DS_Store didn't resolve the issue. This is the only drive that displays this, but like I said, it copied the fault from the old drive.

I've finally resolved this issue almost 10 months later!

It seems when you do a wholesale transfer of all the files in the folder or drive. via a copy or Select All copy, it copies the underlying structure files. I suspect some of these files have been there since OS 9.

So what I did was create a new empty folder and then copied the files over in batches. This ensured the underlying structure files (invisible) weren't copied as well.

You can do this in list view. So when copied across just clean up and the dodgy layout file is left behind.
