Dec 17, 2015 7:27 PM in response to Loner Tby mikethemartian,The 8G USB drive has a model number SDCZ60-008G-A46. It says on the front of the package that it is USB 3.0 compatible but the back of the package and the manufacturer website identify it as a 2.0 drive.
The USB ports on the Mac Mini I'm not quite clear about. The user manual says it has four 3.0 ports. Under system report it lists three USB Hi-Speed busses (one of these is related to the Thunderbolt port), one USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus and one USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Bus.
I reset the SMC and NVRAM. It is booting up to OSX now.

Dec 17, 2015 9:14 PM in response to mikethemartianby mikethemartian,I was able to use that USB installation drive you helped me to create to get it to install as a virtual machine under Parallels 10. I think that will be good enough for my purpose. I'm just going to remerge the Windows partition into the Mac partition using Disk Utility.
I greatly appreciate all the help you gave me.

Dec 18, 2015 3:58 AM in response to mikethemartianby Loner T,USBs can have boot ability limitations. I use a SanDisk Cruzer USB2 flash drive and have used it on several Minis and MBPs to install Windows. Lexar sticks also work very well. Kingston Data Traveler ones are hit and miss. If you want to attempt a non-VM installation, please post back.
The USB ports on the Mini will support USB2 and USB3 devices. If your USB shows up under the Superspeed bus, it is a USB3, otherwise it is a USB2.

Dec 29, 2015 10:56 AM in response to RA_Mac_Book_Userby willdogg79,I had this problem and looked through all the suggestions in this post.
The issue I had was that I had downloaded the Windows 10 Single Language edition (which then threw the error in Bootcamp). However, once I had chosen the standard Windows 10 (and then chosen the English language product language) I had an ISO named Win10_1511_English_x64.iso which is now copying files onto a flash drive via Bootcamp.
This is where I downloaded the ISO.

Hope this helps some people.

Jan 24, 2016 9:47 AM in response to RA_Mac_Book_Userby deanfromstratford,If this post is read by anyone I hope it saves you time. If you get this error. Uncheck the the top option in bootcamp. You will then get the meaningful error message is that you need to reformat your usb/drive. Do that, re-check the first option in bootcamp and then continue. This removed the problem for me. THE USB DRIVE needs to be a FAT file! Got it? I wish this could have been displayed by Apple and saved me a few faff hours.

Install Windows on your Mac using a USB hard drive or flash drive
Depending on the model of your Mac, you might need an external USB drive to install Windows (you’re asked for one when you prepare your Mac for Windows if it’s required).
To find out which versions of Windows your Mac supports, see the Apple Support article System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp.
What you need
- The keyboard and mouse or trackpad that came with your Mac. (If they aren’t available, use a USB keyboard and mouse.)
- An 8 GB or larger external USB drive (a hard drive or a flash drive), formatted as MS-DOS (FAT).To format an external USB drive as MS-DOS (FAT), use Disk Utility, located in Launchpad > Other.
- A Windows ISO image (a disk image that contains the entire contents of a DVD) downloaded from Microsoft, or both a Windows full-install installation disc (not the upgrade version of Windows) and a built-in disc drive or compatible external optical drive. To download Windows ISO images, see Microsoft Software Downloads.
- At least 32 GB of free space on an internal hard drive.

Feb 9, 2016 8:34 PM in response to FC_Barcelonaby izauz,I've tried unmounting the ISO in disk utility but every time i try to re-create the the bootable usb it gives me the same error. "Bootable usb could not be created".
I've made sure the ISO file isn't already on the USB so its currently in my documents folder. Not sure where to go from here, most of the simple troubleshoot problems said before haven't removed this error.

Feb 10, 2016 1:22 AM in response to izauzby izauz,To add some additional information to my above post. I'm trying to install windows 10 off of a purchased USB home version. My laptop is a mid 2012 macbook pro. The error message i'm receiving says "Your Bootable USB drive could not be......" followed by "Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or later installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for Windows 7 or later installation."
I followed the apple guide found here: Create an ISO image for Boot Camp from Windows installation media - Apple Support to make my USB file into an ISO which is what i've been trying to use in bootcamp. The file is currently sitting in my documents and is approximately 15gbs, The USB i'm using is a 16gb USB. As soon as i choose my ISO image and press continue in the 3rd screen on bootcamp, i receive the error.

The USB you have purchased contains mixed 32-bit/64-bit Windows installers. A single 'bit-ness' installer is about 4GB. Please download the correct single ISO image from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home and try again.

May 27, 2016 8:36 AM in response to needhelpBCby ClaudioLettieri,Eh, this is indeed very frustrating. ^_^
I have the same problem. I have a iMac Retina 5K 27 -inch Late 2015 with OS X El Captain 10.11.4
I have bought a Windows 10 x64 home edition
Tried pretty much all of the above:
1) Formatted Usb drivers in MS-DOS FAT
2) tried 4 different USB drivers
3) Unmounted the iso. It keeps mounting himself back any time I try to use bootcamp. I tried to unmount it on the flight... still does not work
4) Obviously my iso file is on my computer ( I cannot understand how anyone can even think to leave it on Usb, while trying to install it )
5) My file is Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso cosistent with other users
I am at a loss. Obviously, this is not a cheap computer that I bought it under the impression that I could install Windows. No Windows=no work which pretty much means I have a useless machine ^_^.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

May 27, 2016 7:04 PM in response to ClaudioLettieriby Loner T,1. Can you post the MD5sum of your ISO file?
2. 2015 and later Macs do not use a USB installer, but use an internal partition called OSXRESERVED. Please see https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/assistant/6.0/#/bcmp173b3bf2 for reference.

Jun 3, 2016 9:19 AM in response to Loner Tby ClaudioLettieri,Hi Loner T,
thanks for the reply:
1. MD5 (Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso) = a4fde74732557d75ffc5354d0271832e
Hope this is what you need
2. IMac 27 inches does need a usb. I installed Windows on my Macbook pro 2015 without a Usb driver. The iMac bootcamp is different. If you read the post you can see that iMac is not supported.
Still seems like I cannot find a solution
