Q: Can't import photos from iPhone to mac after 9.2 & 10.11.2

A couple weeks ago, I could attach my iphone to my mac (USB) and iPhoto would open, show me the new photos, let me import, etc.

After the "upgrades", nothing happens when I attach the iphone.

OK, says I, maybe Apple finally stopped supporting iphoto.

So I setup Photos. Still nothing.

There appears to be no obvious way to import the photos from my iphone to my mac. I suppose I could use email, but that's so stupid.

Any help appreciated.

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), 16 GB, iPhone 6, iPad mini

What happens, when you launch iTunes after you attach your iPhone?  Do you see the iPhone in iTunes?

Then unlock the iPhone, if it is still locked, and when prompted, confirm that the iPhone should trust the computer, when prompted on the iPhone.

    • Are you using Dropbox?  Then make sure that the Preferences in Dropbox are set in a way, that Dropbox cannot access the photos on your iPhone, when the iPhone is connected.
    • try to restart the iPhone while it is connected to USB, and also restart Photos.

    Hi léonie,

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't use iTunes (when Apple didn't support hi-def music I didn't need it anymore).

When I do launch iTunes, the iPhone shows up. Everything OK there. Synch works.

I don't use Dropbox for photos.

Did the restarts - still the same.

    Thanks any way.

    Give this a try:

Fix for Photos and/or iPhoto Not Recognizing iPhone

1 - download and run the free demo version of Find Any File to search for a file name that begins with   "com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2".

    Find Any File003.jpg

    Find Any File004.jpg

2 - delete all files beginning with "com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2".  I found these two:

    PHOTOS-Recognizing iPhone fix.jpg

3 - reboot and connect the iPhone again. Photos and iPhoto both recognized the phone.

Thanks to Terence Devlin for this solution.

    Hi Old Toad.

    Thanks for the reply.

I found the ...501, deleted it, re-booted, and things appear to be working again.

    Thanks.
