Q: iMessage not syncing and one sided conversations

This is so weird. I got a new iPad Pro. I'm experienced in setting up new devices so it's not a matter of not knowing what I am doing. I'm logged on with the same AppleID and all settings are the same across all devices.

My iPhone and MacBook Pro are syncing and giving both sides of the conversations. However, my iPad Pro and iMac are not. And even weirder, my iMac was syncing perfectly before the iPad Pro came into the fold.

For example, my Mom is texting me and we're texting back and forth. I see her texts AND my response on my iPhone and MacBook. But on my iPad Pro and my iMac, I only see my texts to her. In addition to this one way conversation, I noticed that new texts I sent out on my iPhone today only show up on my MacBook and iPhone. They don't even exist on my iMac or iPad Pro. Sometimes if I type in the recipients names the texts will populate. But they aren't.

I've verified all settings are the same across all devices. I've signed out of my AppleID and logged back in. I've researched the community boards. Most of what I find is old and doesn't apply to Yosemite 10.10.5 and IOS 9.2.

I'm waving the white flag. So frustrating that I can't figure it out on my own. HELP please!!!

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, Cellular, iOS 9.2

I'd already seen your previous post and read through it. I didn't spend a lot of time with them since they appear to be outdated.

    Hi,

It is wise to double check all the settings that you think have been made.

Even though you know how to do it and believe that you did do it (which you did as it was working) it does not mean that those settings have stayed.

Twice, before Yosemite and Text Forwarding I "lost" the setting that showed the iPhone Number was active on the iPhone in Send and Receive even though it is not a user changeable item.

You have to reset the iPhone if this happens - that can be as simple as turning Messages on the iPhone Off then On Again.

Sometimes you have to sign out of the Apple ID and other settings and turn the app off and then wait for the number to Verify again when you turn it back on.

That then means Adding Back the Apple ID and resetting the text Forwarding.

As some messages are text (green when you send) and some are iMessages (blue on Send)  then I would also check the Contacts app on each device and make sure they are syncing via the same service.

Either the Text Forwarding is not working in some case or the Contacts app don't have all the info to send the messages via the right service.

Thanks Ralph. I'll do a double-double check later today. My Mom is back home now too so I can pull all the devices together and see if I can find the culprit. I appreciate all comments and advice. Thanks a bunch. I'll update when and if I find the solution.

I have read the previous posts and have had the same problem after updating my MacBook OS.

I re-logged into my icloud  account on my MacBook Pro OS 10.10.5 and then I went to my settings in my iphone 6 then to imessage and relinked my phone number. It ask me to provide my apple ID and password. Went back to my MacBook quit out of imessage then opened it back up, sent a test text and it worked. It didn't update previous texts from my iphone

    Hi,

    If...

I re-logged into my icloud  account on my MacBook Pro OS 10.10.5

This was in System Preferences > iCloud then it does nothing to Messages or the iMessages account.

If you look in the iCloud option in the Pane in System Preferences there is no option to Activate iTunes, The App Store, FaceTime, iMessages  or some other items you can use your Apple ID with.

In effect they can all have different Apple ID to make them work and some people do this so that an email used in iMessages is no the one they use every day in Mail or is not the Account used in iTunes.

However the App Store and iTunes access the same Money if you use the Same ID in both of those.

In the iMessages Account in Messages you can invoke the FaceTime app to a Video or Audio Chats and it pays to use the same ID for these two (otherwise the Contact is likely to refuse an unknown ID requesting a chat in FaceTime).

The upshot is though that logging in an out of iTunes or any of the others or even the iCloud Account itself is not going to do anything.

iMessages has a separate set of Servers.

Making sure the iPhone number is active on the iPhone is the bit that made this work.

It sounds like you caught it before it became "De-registered" and lost the link to the Apple ID.
