Q: My Apple TV 3rd gen not showing in iTunes :(

Hi everyone,

I hope you can help me with a frustrating issue?

I have three 3rd generation Apple TV's in the house. The main lounge and bedroom Apple TV's can be seen in iTunes with no problems but the Apple TV in my second lounge/office is not detected! It has been working fine for over a year but in the last 2 week it has had problems. Nothing has changed in regard to software/hardware etc.

If I turn it on it'll connect to my HP Microserver with no issues but if I want to stream music to it through Airplay it is not showing to 'tick' it to connect?

I have restored the Apple TV and connected it to my iTunes account again but still no luck. Home sharing is turned on.

Fingers crossed somebody will please help?

Thanks

Al

    Hi Fellwalker17,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your post, it sounds like you have an Apple TV that is not showing as an AirPlay device when you would like to stream music to it. If this is correct, please read over and work through the steps located in the following article to help resolve the issue.

If you don't see the device you want to stream to

When you tap AirPlay on your iOS device, you should see a list of devices that you can stream content to. If you don't see the device you're looking for, follow these steps. After each step, try again:

    1. Make sure that the device you want to stream to is plugged in and powered on.
    2. On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on in Settings > AirPlay.
    3. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV.
    4. On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Network and check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device. For Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV uses an Ethernet connection, check that the cable is plugged in to the router that you're using for Wi-Fi.
    5. If you’re using an iPad, scroll up and down in the device list to see all of the available devices.
    6. If you still need help, contact Apple Support.
