Q: iDVD Themes

I have a 2009 iMac with iDVD, and in order to load the software onto my 2012 MBP, I copied the software and the Installed Themes onto my MBP, then placed them in the correct locations (Applications for iDVD and Library->Application Support for the themes. So far, so good. I open iDVD, but when I try to start a new project it looks for the themes. I have it go to the Installed Themes in Library, but when it asks to open them, there's nothing in the folders (named Disk 1 through Disk 6). I have repeated the process 3 times to no avail, after which I repaird the disk permissions. Does anyone have any ideas why it isn't seeing the themes?

Thanks,

George

Remove the Library folder from the Themes folder.  It doesn't belong there.

I didn't put it there -- It was created when I launched iDVD 6.  Same as Frameworks. The iDVD folder is empty...  Crazy, right?  I think 6 won't play nicely with ElCapitan.  Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 12.30.56 PM.png

BTW, that behavior happens regardless of where I save Installed Themes.  I have saved it to  Docs and Desktop  before reaching out on the forum. When I launch iDVD6, it just wipes out the themes

Do you have an iLife 09 or 11 disk that you can try reinstalling from?

With all of the issues with El Capitan and your problems it might be time to move on to another video DVD authoring application.  There are a number of them at the App Store, one that is free, that  you can try.  The few I've tried all have the option to save the project as a disk image to separate the encoding process from the burning process and to make it easier to burn another disk at a later date.

I'm stuck with a dvdproj file that I can't edit.  It all started when the name on the DVD defaulted to "My_Great_DVD" because I had too many characters in the title I chose.  I wish I had known that before I rendered it (10+ hours) on the old iMac.  Thanks for your help, Old Toad. Maybe back to Toast for future projects.
