Q: A verified email address is required to sign in to iMessage

I just restored my iPad from an iCloud backup and now my iMessage cannot sign in.  I attempt to sign in, and get an error message saying "A verified email address is required to sign in to iMessage".  I have used my email address for iMessage and FaceTime for the last 4 years without issue, and all of a sudden it needs to be verified.  When I click on the button to verify my email address, I am directed to the Apple ID sign in page, and when I sign in there is no place to verify an email address.  I am about ready to throw this iPad at the wall and be done with it.
